Blazers offered Outlaw for Gasol???
It says so in the wiretap. Whoa that is a way better offer than what they got, I wouldnt see much need for us to make this trade though, bringing in a starting caliber pf to play with Aldridge and Oden. It doesnt make too much sense to me.
Anyway im glad this didnt go down, not that I don't like Gasol, we just have bigger needs to fill and giving up Outlaw for him isnt the solution we need.

This is interesting if true. It would seem to imply that we aren't convinced LMA is the long term starting answer at PF. Gasol and LMA seem to have very similar games, but there's no question that at least at this point Gasol is the better player.
Either that, or perhaps KP is actually trying to bring in the whole Spanish National team to play around Brandon Roy and Oden

MAYBE this was proposed because they were concerned LMA wasn't the answer longterm. LMA really needs to step it up on D. Oden definately will help mask some of his early defense deficiencies next year. LMA will get better as he bulks up though.
BUT I believe the more probable reason Portland got involved in discussions was to use Gasol as means to do another trade to garner players that fit more specifically in their future rotation. Also it would of been nice to determine who he went to - instead of the Lakers.

I'm not sure I understand this at all. Which leads me to believe that this isn't a deal Pritchard really wanted to make.
Sure Gasol is an excellent player, but he doesn't add anything to this team that we don't already have. If we don't think LMA is the answer long term why would we get Gasol? He's not a good defender, and he's not a great rebounder... that doesn't really address LMA's problems. Furthermore LMA is still growing and improving his game on a rookie contract. Pau kills our cap plans and doesn't fit the young improving mold in my mind.
You might say, oh ya if you can get Gasol for Outlaw and LaFrentz do it! But realize we could also trade that package for other players OR keep outlaw, let LaFrentz expire and then get a player in summer of 09.
This doesn't make much sense for us.

I could see PDX doing that deal just to have the rotation it gives you at 4-5. It would mean Frye and Pryz would be on the way out before next season. All Gasol/Lma/and Oden could all play 32min a game.
From Portland to Reno to Vegas to LA to SLC and on to HotLanta. Winning at life. Too Blessed to be Stressed

So he's bigger, harder to move around, a better shooter, better passer, and has better range? He may not be much better at any one thing, but he's basically better in every category of measurement that you'd look at between the two. That makes him a much better player not a slightly better player, just like Brandon is a much better player than Randy Foye, even though he was only a little better in most major statistical categories than Foye.

hey Toronto Raptors fan here..and I just want to put it out there.
I really don't think you guys need to make a trade THIS season. Your team went to win what 17 games in a row and you need to address the point guard situation??? I wouldn't think so in my opinion. Jjack and Blake saved you guys in my opinion yetserday against the knick and not to forget the outstanding play of Outlaw. I simply can't wait for Oden to play for you guys next season. Anyways, Good luck the rest of the season.
