Mavs owner Mark Cuban on Saturday said the Lakers' trade for Pau Gasol did not jack up the stakes for the Mavs to make a splash, such as deal for disgruntled Nets point guard Jason Kidd.
"We love our team," Cuban said in an e-mail. "We don't feel any urgency to do anything.
"As always, if something presents itself, we are open to talk. As
always, 99.99 percent of talks result in nothing and the deals that do get done are always the ones you have heard nothing about."
That would describe the Lakers' deal for Gasol, which was negotiated under the media's radar until consummated. Meanwhile, nearly half of the Mavs' roster has been mentioned as a piece in a potential deal for the soon-to-be-35-year-old Kidd, who also happens to make $19.7 million this season, more than $20 million next season and wants a $20 million extension.
The trade deadline is Feb. 21. Devin Harris is injured and expected out two to three weeks with a bone bruise on his left ankle. Cuban has said the Mavs won't seek a stop-gap guard while Harris is out. And, for now, it doesn't appear the Mavs will be hot-and-heavy in Kidd trade talks.
"We don't expect to do anything at all," Cuban said.

Here's a deal that benefit both teams:
Dallas trades / Atlanta receives:
Jason Terry
Atlanta trades / Dallas receives:
Josh Childress
Tyronn Lue
Why this trade works for the Mavericks:
Josh Childress has an excellent outside shot. He is big (6'8") for a SG and still hasn't hit his peak. Lue would be a decent backup PG. Their new lineup:
PG...Harris...Lue
SG...Childress...Jones...Hassell
SF...Howard...Stackhouse...George
PF...Nowitzki...Bass...Howard
C..Dampier...Diop
Why this trade works for the Hawks:
The Hawks have needed a PG since Terry left the team. A return to the team that drafted him would be terrific for both him and the team. He would be the guaranteed starter at PG and the team would be better for it. Their new lineup:
PG...Terry...Law...Johnson
SG...Johnson...West
SF...Williams...Smith
PF...Smith...Williams
C...Horford...Pachulia
What do you think?

Childress doesn't have any outside shot at all. Don't be fooled by his high fg%. That's because all the shots he takes are near the basket. He's a decent player, but I wouldn't give Terry for him.
We'd be better off looking to sign him this offseason.

First, I would love to have Magg on the Mavs, but you guys who are trying to trade for him forget that THAT DEAL DIDN'T WORK in the summer. LAC as stupid as they are are not going to trade Magg. The deal works on both sides and still didn't happen.
Those saying Childress has a high FG% but not an outside shot. We are a total jumpshooting team, why do we need another one? That's what is getting us into trouble now, and you want more jumpshooters?
On the trades and transactions forum there is a discussion about who is more valuable to the Mavs, Devin or Josh. They are both equally important. There might be a slight nod to Harris because of his choice to drive to the basket that this team DESPERATELY needs. I myself do trade Josh before Devin for that fact (Josh drives a decent amount, but not as much as I'd like him to).
One other thing that I believe to be a misnomer about Josh is that he disappears in the second half. The team seemingly almost deliberately goes away from him in the second half. You can't score if you're not getting the ball, and the plays are called for JET, Stack and especially Dirk in the second half.
Yesterday the Mavs played Josh at the 2 for an extended amount of time (Lineup of JET, JHo, Bass, Dirk and Damp). It worked out and that is when they made a mini-push at Det. Josh is 6'5" maybe 6'6", with long arms, he already guards SGs many times during a game, I don't see why he couldn't do it.
The Mavs need to get rid of JET and Stack. Between the two of them I don't know which Avery has more of a mancrush on. If for no other reason than to get rid of Avery's substitution crutches, the two of them need to go. A quality backup PG and a two way SG would be what I want in return for them. My thought is Battier and someone of Mike James ilk but I'm not sure Houston wants to deal with the Mavs. Childress and Lue makes sense to me because Lue and JJB can fight it out for playtime.
I don't care if the talent swap is not in our favor in that Atlanta deal, it's mostly addition by subtraction IMO. Bass at this point would become our 6th man and I REALLY like him for that spot. He gets a few more minutes at the 3, gets all of the leftover PF minutes and some C minutes when we play smallball teams.

I think the Mavs have tried to trade Stack for the past year or so with no takers. His trade value must be low.
The Mavs won't trade Jason Terry because he's a great utility player. If the Mavs need backup point guard help like now that Devin is down, Terry is there to give it. If the Mavs need backup shooting guard help if the one they are currently using (there have been so many) is down, Terry can fill that role.
I'd like to trade Terry myself. But unless you can get a better point man like Kidd or a better 2 guard like Hamilton from the Pistons, then you keep him on the team.

I disagree..but all accounts the Mavs WERE trying to trade Terry for Maggette, but Clips shot that down. Terry has down nothng as a backup to Devin right now. His best year was the year before his fat contract. Mavs won't trade Terry b/c he's not that attractive due to age, one-dimensionality, and his contract.

What would you guys think of Terry + Hassell for Dunleavy + Tinsley?
Dunleavy, IMO, is a taller, better rebounding Terry (good %'s, not all that defensivly, and about as good of a passer) on about the same contract and Tinsley would be a good Harris backup.
Pacer fans seems to like it, but I also offered a 1st in our package.

I say no just because of the baggage Tinsley brings with him. I like that no Mav is ever reported in a police blotter and I think Avery and Cuban pride themselves on that too.

Okay, I can see your point, but Stack has as much baggage and Kidd has more. The worst is Artest, whom eveeryone wants around here. So, I take that reasoning with a grain of salt.mavsfoty wrote:I say no just because of the baggage Tinsley brings with him. Oh, BTW, the in the actual trade, I suggested Dunleavy + Tinsley for Terry + Stack (or Hassell) which would even out the baggage history if they take Stack.
