FGump, JD45, or anyone who can help.

Post#1 » by JES12 » Sat Feb 2, 2008 7:18 am

The whole Dampier situation....

I know JD gave me a link before with a reporter was remembering how Damp's last year was not guaranteed, and we all pretty much know it is only guaranteed if he makes the all-star team twice or avg a double-double twice.

However, have have looked everywhere and cannot find anything to back that up. Is there any link some one can point me to that clarifies those stipulations? FGump, those goal oriented incentives are allowed, correct?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have seen it mentioned in a few news reports but thats it.

The NBA doesn't release contract details so even something like Patricia's site is based on news reports anyway. There really isn't any link to official contract details.

Would hoops hype be any help?

Or CBA board and Larry Coon?

I've discussed this with several people who have intermittent limited access to contractual details. (Most of it comes through agents, I believe.) They have told me the following:
a. Dampier's final year is non-guaranteed.
b. It becomes guaranteed if certain specific incentives are met.
c. They didn't have enough access to learn what those incentives are.

What you said ("it is only guaranteed if he makes the all-star team twice or avg a double-double twice") is about what I recall being leaked when the deal was originally signed, so that's likely a pretty good accounting of the incentives. I don't think there's any way to get anything more definitive at this point.

We've already discussed it there multiple times in the past. What I offered here already included all their prior input.

I brought it up to someone two weeks ago so it's still fresh in my mind, but I forgot the link. Basically, Dampier has to make the all-star team thrice in his first six seasons (so that's out of the window now) and the other is he play 70 games on the 09-10 season.

An ESPN insider article that came out after he signed the contract, although they weren't the first to report it; Fish (Mike Fisher) did. You can try asking him or DLord at Dallas-basketball.com.

I just noticed that Mbenga only counts $69,374 this year and nothing next year on sham sports. Was his contract unguaranteed or something?

Thanks Cat!

Thanks to Cat's post on the CBA thread for thin info and Flash (Heat fan) forwarding the info to whoever Sham is, Sham has now updated Dampier's final year to gray (or unguaranteed).

I viewed this as a rip. Oh well, not sure I deserve any credit, but those geeks know what they are talking about. They must study the stupid CBA and know the intricacies.
