Since when was Gasol worth nothing? Seriously, this guy is on the same level as Bosh and JO. People act like Gasol was holding back the Grizz from completely rebuilding. They were headed to a high lottery pick with or without Gasol.

I'm just amazed at how a 27 year old post player like him can be shipped out for nothing.

If Memphis was really trying to save money they wouldn't have given that ridiculous contract to Darko. Now they have an expiring contract in Brown who makes up for that awful signing. :noway:

They are really high on Thabo, I mean crazy high. And some nights you can see why. He's a very good defensive player. Still don't know why they don't do the deal but they're quite high on Thabo and think once Noah shuts up he'll be better than Tyrus

He looks awful each time I watch him play. He always comes off the bench, jacking up shots going 3/10

Why didn't they do it?

It would have to be Thabo, Noah, Duhon and Smith to make the salaries work - or Thabo, Noah and Nocioni.

but again, this should not be surprising. This has been John Paxson's achille's heel for a long time - he appears to be afraid to pull off the big deal. I am sure Chicago could have had Garnett or Kobe or now Gasol, but he is unwilling to make the offers that would get it done.

But more than that, I am wondering if perhaps there is a fiscal issue. Next year they already have $25 million tied up in Wallace and Hinrich. They have to deal with Ben Gordon and Luol Deng this offseason, and both are likely to sign weighty extensions (unless they leave, which is now a distinct possibility).

Could you imagine if BOTH Gordon and Deng walk on the Bulls? After they could have easily been traded for Garnett?

This offseason is VERY perilous for the Bulls.

It's amazing that Chicago wouldn't pony up a better package than the one they offered. It's not like the current combination is working for the Bulls 29th ranked offense.

But once again, Paxson is afraid to pull the trigger on a big one. I think that Paxson knows talent but his ultra-conservative style is going to keep the Bulls from ever being contender.

My theory is that the Lakers offered the draft picks that many other teams wouldnt. The goal is to sell the team and thats more appealing with cap space, picks and trade pieces than other teams youngsters.

Everyone in the league is starting to doubt Thomas's attitude so they don't get anything good from that package. Better players than LA's package but it doesn't fit, no cap space or young studs to build around
Yeah, the Nocioni packages make no sense.

Best deal the Bulls could have offered would have been:

Smith

Thomas

Duhon

Noah

Khryapa

for

Gasol

Cardinal

+minimum contract fillers

...that beats the hell out of the Lakers offer, in my view.or]w.

Can Chicago sign and trade P.J Brown and a package of players/picks for an upgrade?

The trick here is the Memphis is trying to be good.

Like Mark Stein wrote today, Memphis is trying to cut salary so that Heisley can sell the team. It wouldn't be surprising at all if they left Memphis.

Frankly though, there doesn't seem to be a great market for poorly performing NBA teams. Somehow bigger market teams - Seattle, Cleveland, Phoenix - are the ones that get sold these days.

Did you actually code all that? You must have a lot of spare time.
