Memphis didnt want any players not on a reasonable rookie contract IMO. They are trying to sell the team. Cap space an picks are appealing as the new ownership can build a team they want ala portland rather than being stuck with Larry Hughes.

People are right to question the accuracy of the report.

Thomas and Outlaw are the two players that would interest me the most if I were the Grizzlies. The key is whether you want a contract that comes off the books in a year and a half in LaFrentz or a solid contributer in Nocioni. Apparently Memphis wanted to clear payroll so badly they took lesser talent in Crittendon.

I'd take the Blazers deal because you get a young guy who is coming into his own in Outlaw aswell as an expiring.

LaFrentz's contract doesn't expire until after next season.

Even if you take Smith's report as gospel, which is very unwise, it doesn't say the Grizzlies asked for Noah and Thabo and were turned down. The entire article is extremely vague, probably because Smith doesn't actually have much information.

He's either going to be an all-star or a bust? Lol. Crit isn't close to Roy and never will be. He was the 17th pick in the 2007 draft. He'll be a solid bench player and could become an OK starting PG at best.

I would've accepted the Bulls deal with a few tweaks, it seemed to be the best proposal

but Memphis gets some picks from the Lakers AND another Gasol

Roy spent 3 years in college vs only 1 for Critt. Dude has crazy handles and moves. In a few years he'll be a nightly highlight film. Brandon Roy is a decent comparison, not perfect by any means, but I can't think of anyone else about the same size with the ability to play both guard spots.

Steve Francis-lite maybe? That's probably a good comparison because I'm not sold on his jumpshot or his decision making but his ability to score and handle the rock will be enough to make him good.

Comparing a guy with 1 year of college experience to Roy?

Of course he isn't close to Roy at the moment but he has all the talent to be better in the future. Just depends on how hard he works.
