Dean Takahashi at the San Jose Mercury does a better job than anyone else I've seen at getting in the loop on that stuff. It seems like every once in a while he'll be the first to get at something about the hardware and then everyone else links to him and catches up.

iirc the 2 chips are something like the CPU and GPU, and they took one of those down from 80 or 90nm to that 65nm.

... I found that link since it's gotten a little fuzzy for me, I didn't remember everything and he actually reported they won't shrink the other chip until closer to the end of next summer: http://www.mercextra.com/blogs/aei/2007/10/09/xbox_360_secrets_after_falcon_comes_jasper/

Ok cool thanks for that link, was a great read.

In your personal opinion, do you think Microsoft will ever fix the RRoD problem once and for all?

idk if I can help much with that, that part's almost impossible to say with all the different reports and reviews. If you start to feel good about it, you'll come across another page with a bunch of people saying their brand new systems all broke. And then there's still a lot of people who've had theirs since the beginning with no problems. I would think the failure rate isn't anywhere near 35% any more by the time you crack 10 million sold worldwide, but nothing would surprise me.

It was a lot of money to me and a big decision, and I guess I got comfortable enough with the chance whether that was right or not. After some research before long it wasn't 360/PS3 as much as 360/no 360, because of Live.

And all this stuff about how people do stuff like wrap their RRoD 360 in hot towels to get it to work somehow, I really don't understand.

Hey Battier, are you still around? I haven't seen him here in a while but I wonder if still they're taking as many broke system returns at his Best Buy as they were.

A lot of people on Youtube can fix the problem themselves by opening the console and replacing some parts.

They say Microsoft use something called an "X-Clamp" which is really low quality and cheap metal that does not do the job. So the owner of the console just needs to replace the X-Clamp with some bolts and washers to hold it into place.

When my 360 broke, I sent it in, and they sent me a refurbished one. Within a week, that one had the three lights as well. I sent that one in (and they gave me a free copy of xbox live arcade unplugged - yay?) and am still without a system. Hopefully whatever they send back this time will work.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat you are...except I took Viva Pinata cuz it had the most resale value on Ebay.

On another note, I called in again and they just kept bull$hitting me so I asked to talk with a supervisor and the end result was a wireless controller - yay?

I was given an approximate delivery date of 1 and a half weeks which was about 3 days ago.

Haha free wireless controller and free game, thats not to bad.

I know you guys are most likely really pissed off about it, but no other company would give you a 3 year warranty AND give you free games and wireless controllers haha, so thats is actually pretty good.

I also hear if you send it in more than 4 times, they send you a check of $125 hehe.

They didn't give the 3 year warranty because they wanted to be nice... they did it to stave off class action lawsuits. It took them a long time to admit that the 3 red lights were a common problem.

If I don't get my console back in another week, maybe I'll see if I can get a wireless controller too. Those things are like $50.

What about Sony and the PS2? Those consoles were really really faulty at the start, and it took Sony 4 years to fix the problem. They did not extend their warranty or give out any free items.

Atleast Microsoft are giving out free things and extending the warranties.
