Joe is still a great player, I think the fact that Joe is capable of more is what disturbs people. Regarding the one shot/Caron Butler thing. If Joe did shoot the 46% he's capable of, regardless of the extra positive effect it has on the rest of the offense, our average +/- on the season becomes positive. As of now our average margin in a game is -1.7 Indiana has one more win and four more losses than us and they have -1.9. The fact is Joe's average is down because he has been more inconsistent, he still has big games, just fewer of them than last season. If he were averaging that 46% you don't assume that it would be evenly distributed over every game, there would be some games where he was hitting 40% but comparatively more where he was putting in 50%.

Again, I am hesitant to call close to 40% shooting "inconsistent." That is straight up bad.
Obviously he has bad shooting games no matter what. But we are more than halfway through the season and he is shooting 40%. It's not fair to attribute that to a few bad games. I would call that a bad half season (at least shooting the ball). And I don't know anyone who wouldn't call it anything but that.

SEKOU SMITH: Top five unpicked NBA All-Stars
So here are the five guys who should be added to roster immediately, a crew we've affectionately nicknamed "The Five Heartbeats":
Jose Calderon, Toronto
No one has had a more impressive first month of the season than Calderon, who is playing a starring role for the Raptors because of an injury to T.J. Ford. While Calderon is playing with much better talent than he's routinely credited for, he has taken control of things for Sam Mitchell's squad in ways few observers thought he would be able to with the Raptors' season on the line.
Hedo Turkoglu, Orlando
If Robert Horry decides to retire and hand over his title as the game's best clutch shot-maker, Turkoglu would be an ideal fit. He was slated to be the odd man out with Rashard Lewis coming to town in the offseason. But he's been far more consistent than Lewis and has earned the role of the Magic's second scoring option after All-Star center and Atlanta native Dwight Howard.
Baron Davis, Golden State
One of several players squeezed in the Western Conference guard crunch, Davis has arguably the most legitimate gripe of anyone that didn't get an invitation to New Orleans. Even more stinging for Davis, never a favorite of coaching types around the league, is that the player the Hornets drafted to replace him (Chris Paul) and the coach he bailed on (Byron Scott) will represent the hometown team when the festivities begin.
Josh Howard, Dallas
Observers who watch the Mavericks on a nightly basis claim Howard, and not All-Star reserve Dirk Nowitzki, has been the Mavericks' best player this season. They'll get no argument here. Howard, an All-Star last season, was edged out this season in a deep, talented and accomplished Western Conference, although has carried the same load as last season.
Marcus Camby, Denver
A middle-of-the-pack Western Conference team with three All-Stars apparently just wasn't going to fly with the league coaches, who picked the reserves for the All-Star game rosters. With Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson already voted into the game (by fans) as starters, Camby was penalized more for the team he plays on than he was for anything he has done

With the late performance of Josh Smith, I was thinking he could have a chance... certainly the record of ATL killed it.
They needed a backup center. Z was the only other choice. Or maybe Haywood.
Rasheed is a great player, don't get me wrong, but he has averaged less than 14 points and 7 rebounds the last two seasons he has made the All Star game. With terrible shooting. He's a good defender, but he's pretty fortunate.
