OT- What about Patrick O'bryant

Post#1 » by Pmoney » Sun Feb 3, 2008 5:16 am

He is huge.. 7'2.. Long wing span
Has a sky hook, can hit the 15 foot jump shot.. Can block shots

I read on the golden state board that hes as good as gone in the offseason

Should we look to acquire him then?

He would look nice next to bosh :)

I wouldn't mind giving him a shot, he didn't really fit in with Golden States style, hopefully we could get him for cheap

GS have declined to pick up his option for next year. He's an unrestricted FA. So, we can pick him up without having to trade for him. Lets wait till the off-season

Don Nelson said he would eat dinner with Patrick but not play him.

Well,

If he is a smart player, he's an ideal fit to replace Rasho at a salary that we'd be happier to pay.

That also frees up Rasho as an expiring contract that could be used to return any kind of player and not just a rebounder once the summer trading frenzy begins.

He'd be someone I'd love to take a flier on.

Picking him up in a trade for Joey would only be what I'd do, aside from some other piddling offer.

Obviously a target in the offseason as a project big to take on.

O'Bryant is 7'2?? I've never seen him listed as anything other than 7'0.

(Not that it really matters)

He is soo soft...exactly what we neeed. I have a friend who went to high school with him and he says he was the softest person in school. His father had to shout at him just to play sports.

They'd rather play a broken down Chris Webber than O'Bryant. He has had virtually no PT. And he was picked in the lottery because of his good Tourney run with Bradley where he was always the biggest person on the floor. What actually points to this kid being any good?

I'd absolutely take a flyer on Patrick O'Bryant. He's got talent, and is a nice guy, good teammate - he's just a horrible fit for the Nellyball Warriors. But with us, he could work. He has some shotblocking and scoring skills, good hands, and a sometimes inconsistent motor and rebounding drive - but the body to be a very good NBA C.

Diop looked like a horrible stiff his first two years. Young, athletic Cs who aren't total stoners or space cadets (Keon or Moiso?) have a chance to develop into something useful or better.

For next to nothing, he'd be a great pickup. I've been saying it for months though so don't act like it's your idea.

I love the idea of getting someone massive next to Bosh so our boy can do his thing.

Hey - I liked him a lot in college, drafted him (disastrously) in a keeper league, and we have his fellow alumni AP to recruit him. :D

if hibbert is around when we pick, might as well go that route.

I think O Bryant deserves a shot. He got somewhat of a chance early last year, but things just didnt work out i guess.

I like Roy Hibbert, but he's a top 10 pick. And his performance against Greg Oden last year helped his stock rise as well.

O'Bryant is athletic, skilled and still relatively young. He struggled last season but played quite well in both summer league and preseason this past year. The biggest problem is he's playing for the absolutely worst team and coach for his game right now.

Definitely worth a low risk flyer. BC took similar flyers on Hump, Moon and Delfino and they've all worked out quite well.
