I still don't see how it would have been allowable in any era.
Oh well, it was a little before my time (I started watching the NBA in the late 60') but never ever heard of anyone seeing or even attempting to do a "Wilt-like" FT attempt.
We did used to copy the underhand FT stuff like he and Rick Barry used to do.

yea craig, i don't think anyone has ever attempted it in the NBA either. I think Wilt was probably the first person to do it in high school back then (or at least the only well known person to do it), and the NCAA and NBA knew he was going to do it if the rules allowed it so they changed it before he could get there. Didn't really apply to anyone but him at the time.
