without someone driving to the paint, the Pistons can collapse on all our perimeter guys + our cold shooting= shooting around 30%.

Against a good defensive team, we have poor ball movement (again how many times did Terry and Bass dribble until 3 secs left only to pass to someone else in desperation) and no easy baskets (every basket is sooo hard for us, whereas the opposing team has a field day with open jumpers and layups).

This team needs a change.

And thanks to Avery, no more baskets in transition. We've become 100% perimeter half court team without any dominance in the post. No fast break points, no points in the paint= BAD COMINBATION.

A few responses...

(1) I don't think Harris is going to suddenly make Josh Howard stop forcing jumpshots instead of driving to the basket. Same for JET, Stack, et al.

(2) The commentators who recognized Harris importance also repeated several times that Harris AND Stack attacked the basket for us. Stack quit attacking the basket a few years ago; so take these guys' comments with a grain of salt.

(3) Diop, IMO, is one of the biggest problems with our offense when he's in there. We're effectively playing 4 on 5 with him on the court. And his defensive prowess seems to come and go, and when it goes, he's completely useless.

(4) I'm impressed with Hassell the more I see him, particularly offensively (not that he does anything great, but he's capable), but...

(5) The Mavs don't have enough offense from our other guys (JET, Josh, Dirk, Bass, et al) to compete with below average offensive players at multiple positions on the court at the same time. I know we were missing Devin and Stack today, but this game highlighted for me why we can't play with 3 offensive guys and 2 defensive specialists: there's just not enough offensive production. Thus, we MUST use the 2-PG backcourt or sacrifice some defense by playing Stackhouse and Bass more. Even with Devin replacing Terry, there's still not enough offense.

I'm a HUGE Terry supporter but he is struggling this year. I think part of it is how undefined his role is. I know it's because of injuries but sometimes he's a SG, sometimes he's a PG; sometimes he's a starter, other times he's a bench guy.

Either find a role for him and let it stick or shop him around. I hate to say it but it's the truth.

Okay, I didn't see Diop's play in the trash minutes at the end of the game, but nobody should be trashing Diop. In the 4 real minutes he played he had a block on Maxiell who was dunking on everyone, a reb (I think), an assist to Bass and he cought a tough pass in the paint that he almost finished (I actually thought it was Bass til I saw Bass 3 ft away). Diop's offense has improved and if Avery and anyone else can't see that, then they are just seeing what they want to see. Yeah, I know he had 0 points, but he was making the right moves and was in the right positions. Taking him out after 4 minutes was a terrible move.

Period!

Dampier statline looked okay (8 pts, 10 reb, 1 blk, 1 stl, 2 ast) but he looked more lost and stagnant than Diop out there. That would be fine if it was Duncan he was playing, but Dampier did not match up well today.

I was frustrated by our big men today, not one more than the other.

Jason running @ PG is damn frustrating. He can't drive for two **** if Devins not out there.

Josh had a horrible first half, and that means he had a horrible game.

Just an ewwie game to watch, lol.

If that's directed at me, not one bit of that is directed toward my point: Diop is horrible offensively. He "almost finished" a basket. YEAH!!! His "offense has improved" some. YEAH!!! He still freakin' sucks offensively in virtually every facet and makes it harder on the entire offense.

We complain about the offense bogging down and settling for jumpshots, and we always blame Dirk, JET, Stack, and anyone else who actually contributes offensively. How about throwing some blame at the guys like Diop who clog the lane, don't even require a defender half the time, and STILL can't make open shots when they present themselves? You and others complain about Brandon Bass's tunnel vision but will backup Diop at every turn. I just don't get it.

For a guy who almost had a double-double and actually played well, despite the poor matchup, you sure are willing to go out of your way to "trash" him. Again, I just don't get it.

But I don't get this thread in general. Diop's problems are all someone else's fault (Avery's). Terry's problems are all someone else's fault (Avery's). Any time Harris has a problem, that's Avery's fault too. Is it ever going to be the fault of the players actually on the floor?

Yep bad game all around.
Just wait till after the all-star break. That has been the plan. Be under the radar till after the all-star break and then start building towards the playoffs. The real season doesn't start until the all-star game and climax in the playoffs. Well, it's been my plan. LOL :nod:

Who was it yesterday who air-balled like five foot jumpshot? After that I had to turn away for about 10 minutes.

Diop is horrendous offensively, I don't see what's so hard about shooting the ball within 5 feet/dunking it, especially when your that tall/athletic.

It's going to be a long-stretch until we get Devin back, at least tonight we play a team that doesn't have a great/true PG.
