Why aren't you around more often, Badinage? I love this stuff and, of course, agree with it in its entirety.

Disgusting.
Appreciate what the cat does, fine. But this unabashed jock-sniffing? This unrepentant star-f u c k ing? This golly-gee yahoo-ing? Disgusting.
I mean, have some goddam pride.
And all those groupies and wanna-bes swarming the players' tunnel afterwards. Disgusting.
You see a celebrity, you don't slobber in his or her presence. That's unseemly, and indicative of your own lack of self-worth. No, you ignore the celebrity, sweeping past as if he or she did not exist (anyone remember the scene in Walker Percy's The Moviegoer?).
And at a ballgame? Jesus Christ. You do what fans in Boston or Philly or New York or Chicago do. You do the only right and proper thing. You boo that mother f u c k e r. That's what you do. And it is a moral act to say no to the star-making machine, to say no to the ceaseless celebrification of our increasingly dopey culture, to resist the forces of commodification, the forces of marketing, the forces of 24/7 hype.
Satan is happy with your progress.

did not yet read the thread but hope to do so later tonight....
I caught the last comment or too and it's actually what I wanted
to post on.....
quick survey of the fair-minded members of our board
if someone was hypothetically yelling
No Kobe, Don't Kobe, Stop Kobe
every time the Kobe crowd got all a tither at his last move
would you consider those comments to be:
Offensive?
Inappropriate?
Neither or both?

I don't know. I kinda like it. It's the kind of thing that would go over a kid's head and therefore not ruin the fan experience for a family, while at the same time doing part to "protect home court" as a fan.

When I heard it, I thought more/less the same thing.
Not profane or crude, but rather an ugly reminder of
an ugly thing.
The person doing it was approached by another fan at
halftime and politely asked to stop saying it...that it was insensitve
to any potential rape victims that might have been present.
The person did stop.

Can you post one about Caron's younger days, because I heard he was a real choirboy. Or is that a double standard?
the accounts are out there. You are certainly correct that he was
not a choir boy.
however -
he was VERY young (13/14?)
he was clearly under the influence of older family/friends who
obviously were what most of us would consider positive role models
he turned his life around and has been a good citizen to the
full extent that we know.
I don't think there's any comparison myself. Based on the above,
I don't see a double std or hypocrisy here. You're free to have your
own opinion. I would just ask that you consider how you would feel
if he played for a hated rival.
I don't question the man's talent. He ran Shaq outta LA. I think his
character speaks for itself.

What happened to our D? It seem like just yesterday I was singing praise to our D.
There were also some bad substitution patterns. Not sure what EJ was trying to do.
The only thing I'm surprised about is that people are surprised by ejs game time lines up and rotations. This is nothing new.
Knee Surgery - No Problem. I'll play you 40+ a game
Hip Flexer - Missed 3 games. Take 40
Lets just face it people. EJ has never been a top quality NBA Head Coach.

Are you serious?
Wow. I guess no level is to low to stoop down to. I think that is pretty classless. Even as a Wizards fan I would have been totally annoyed if you were saying that and I would have said something to you about it. Specially if I was sitting there with my lady and the kids.
You can say what you want in your house, but you don't say crap like that in a public place with ladies, children and teen agers.

The point about it being insensitive to rape and sex assault victims is well taken. My original point was twofold
1) This was far less offensive than the hurling of F-bombs (which I hear all too often in the presence of kids) is it would go over kids' heads.
2) It's a small measure of "accountability" for Kobe's reprehensible behavior. Dude is a phenomenal basketball player, but a despicable human being.

I hear what your saying but I guess I feel there is more to it then that. Even 12 year olds these days know a lot. Also, there are people/ladies around that didn't come to hear that kind of thing. As for the F bomb. That's not too cool either but it is something you are more likely to hear in public that rape talk. I have asked people to stop stuff like that if it is a public place.
Maybe I don't know enough about the case or the facts. Honestly, I doubt many know the facts except Kobe and that girl. You take a high dollar star like Kobe, add a girl/young women and I'm sure there are a lot of stories to tell. Money, Power, Fame, Women. It can get ugly real quick and what looked like a free piece can end up costing you plenty. That's why they stick to the pre-screened groupies or straight up hookers/call girls.
Point is, I wasn't there. I wasn't in the trial, I didn't see it on TV. Who knows what really happened.
Rumor had it MJ stay locked up in a hotel away from the public. This is probably way. You can actually become so famous and rich they you become a prisoner of your fame and wealth.

Great game. I think that all of the kobe/Laker Cheering came only from the laker fans that were there. When we began the MVP chants most of the wizard fans tried and sometimes succeeded in BOOing to block us out.
Its a bit over the top to criticize a fanbase who for some may want autographs and pictures to remember their experince by saying they are drooling or think less of themselves. Its pretty IGNORANT honestly. THis could have been the first and only time for some to go to a professional game and maybe they want to take full advantage. Also Kobe comes to town once a year.
The wizards just didnt show up today and that may be where the Hate is stemming but you didnt have Gil. I live here in the area and I like the team but the lakers are my squad.
Oh and for the guy who said visiting team fans should be hesitant to cheer for thier team due to home team fans.......I'm 6'5 250 and I wish a n**** would say something to me or have a problem with me after I paid MY MONEY to see MY TEAM. As long as your not rude and disrespectful to others around you then no harm done.

Its easy to say so much about what you dont know. Until your a high profile athlete dealing with this situation and you want a fair deal without prejudgements then you can continue to believe the supposed "victim".
Lying is a trait that many people possess, not just rich people. Either of the two in this case could be guilty of lying. That chick could have avoided being in that situation as could have kobe.
Walking around with multiple sperm samples in her draws dosen't make me feel like her word is too reliable when trying to say someone FORCED her to F***. Kobe put himself in a situation by cheating on his wife with a POOR azz chick so that is on him. Risk taken on his part should have atleast been with a chick he had already smashed which would have kept things discreet.

Page 9, line 264, Kobe starts down the road of paying people off (accuser? cops?) to make the problem go away:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0924041kobea9.html
page 18, line 554. Kobe asks the woman he's cheating on his wife with if he can ejaculate on her face:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/09 ... bea18.html
clealry focused on the potential economic loss:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0924041kobeb4.html
explicitly offering to pay the accuser off (line 771):
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0924041kobeb5.html
admits having an affair with a different woman:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/09 ... beb17.html.
Great player. But in my book, a guy who habitually cheats on his wife so he can have rough sex with women and come on their faces is a scumbag.

So this thread has clearly veered off topic, but what they hey... I'm game.
I don't care if a man and woman want to have sweet sex, rough sex, ejaculate on her, whatever sex.... as long as it is consensual.
She says "No" you got to stop and make sure she really means "Stop". And if she does, you do. Period. Punto. Full stop.
Anything else is not respecting her, and really, in the end, not respecting yourself either. Makes you look like a thug and a bad human being.
