You guys that didn't want Gasol to come to DC are gonna eat a bunch of crow come playoff time.

He's played in about the most low-profile market in the NBA, so he's completely underrated. But he's had a +20 PER every season since 2001. He is not a Karl Malone type PF, because he's quicker and long than he is beefy. He runs the court well, passes well, blocks 2 a game. And he's just 27, entering his prime. Oh, and he averages 19 and 9.

LA's gonna go far with him in the lineup. Wish he'd come here.

Trade ID: 4459603

Grizz trade:
1) Mike Miller
2) Kyle Lowry
3) Brian Cardinal
for:
1) Malik Rose
2) David Lee
3) Fred Jones (EXPIRING)
4) Renaldo Balkman

NEW LINUPS:
Knicks:
PG: Lowry/Robinson
SG: Crawford/Collins
SF: Miller/Qrich
PF: Randolph/Jefferies
C: Curry/Morris

Memphis:
PG: Conley/Navarro
SG: Critt/Jones
SF: Gay/Balkman
PF: Lee/Warrick
C: Darko/Brown

Why for Knicks?
1) They get a fantastic shooter in Miller who'd be an upgrade over QRich. Lowry would be the pass-first young PG the knicks do not have.

Why for Memphis?
1) Lee and Balkman would be two fantastic young forwards who'd be a perfect fit in the uptempo system of Memphis. With Conley and Critt, Lowry is expendable.
2) They get mucho cap relief as Jones expires, Rose's contract ends one year earlier than Miller's contract, and they get rid of Cardinal in the process.
I think that's a very good trade for both teams, mhd.

I'm not gonna get too much into the merits of the AJ for Gasol thing, which was done to death in other threads and is now a moot point.

But a little part of me wonders if Abe Polin's obsession with loyalty forbade Grunfeld from talking to Memphis about moving AJ, or if EG had a chance to make something happen and didn't get it done.

Unfortunately, we'll never know which if either were true, Wiz99.

I think that deal would have gone against everything EG has done regarding loyalty to other players he's signed.

Maybe BOTH Abe and he were on the same page (no way they make a deal for Gasol). That's my suspicion--they didn't really entertain the thought seeing how Jamison's exceeded good here (IMO, even after the loss to the Jazz). Character, professionalism, all star perfomance, and improving at 31 is good enough to keep.

But the fantasy trading part of me says on paper Gasol produces more and even in the future the promise to be even better.

Yes nacho cheese, cheese, salsa good chit. Anyways this was a rape job the Lakers gave to the Grizzly, but hey gives us the option of picking up Kwame on the cheap after he and Darko get thrown into the game together in Memphis.

It's a shame they're trading away Swift. That could've been one hell of a big frontcourt: Kwame, Darko, Swift. Long live the draft lottery.

You know the thing I admire about teams like LA, miami and Boston is they makes moves with the goal of a championship. They make big moves. They're trying to swing kidd, trying to swing artest, swung gasol totally out of the blue. NO one saw this coming. we all thought gasol to bulls for the longest time. Now the lakers have the team the bulls wanted which was a kobe/ gasol combination. Isnt that funny. And the lakers havent had to give up Odom. They might get kidd without having to swing Bynum.
I've been saying for the longest time lets try get gasol. LArgely was I thought he was an elite two way power forward. We;ll see how he performs in prime time. I was a little concerned he was never enough for his team to win. I also think its funny that his brother is being shipped to memphis in exchange for him. His brother has lived in Memphis. I think the firesale is a good idea considering the draft picks next year. Those are the best times. They stack up for the next few years and do what portland did. Also someone here mentioned maybe this helps sell their team.
Along the same lines isn't new jersey possibly moving to Brooklyn. In that case I wonder what they might be flipping. I've also said we should go after artest. He's a good player but people are always talking about what issues he has which is perfect because it deflates his trade value. But he can still play. I wouldnt be surprised if they go after kidd or Artest. I've always thought we should go after artest and make caron play the two.
Back to memphis. I always wondered why we gave up Navarro for what seemed like a really bad deal to me. When you look at it there was no way memphis would have a good enough record for us to earn the pick anytime soon. It seems like their goal is to not get rid of any draft picks. Perhaps this deal was made with that in mind. I wonder if for that purpose they owe us one and a gentlemans agreement has been made. Perhaps theirs a possibility that we can swing a deal for any one of their other players. We have a young enough team we don't need draft picks why don't we get rid of some of our salary, give them the draft picks they need to stock up on talent for the next few drafts and build the team they need for some of the talent they currently have. Miller or Lowry would be nice.

Imagine all this happening within a year, Fisher goes back to the lakers because of issues with his daughter, they don't trade Bynum and he blows up, Farmar develops, Mo evans goes for Ariza, Brown for Gasol, Vujacic is getting better, turiaf hustles, Odom is still there. Crazy...We are too comfortable. Everyone else is hustling and making moves. When are we going to be in that mode, I know we are not a big market team but its the nations capital for christsakes

Do you guys know how it feels to finally UNLOAD Kwame from our roster? It's like pulling out a bone from your throat after it choked you. It feels THAT GOOD.

:rofl2:

Oh we DEFINITELY understand. Just imagine having him for 4 years. And not just 4 years of him being a role player - 4 years of waiting for him to save your franchise.

I still hate him to this day.

nate33 wrote:Yup. If I'm LA, I'd be on the phone with Sacramento. Odom for Artest + Kenny Thomas would help both teams. Sacramento positions themselves for big cap room in Summer 2009 when there are a lot of free agents available. LA ends up with the best starting 5 in the league hands down.

Artest is a whiny lil beatch about touches. If you can't give him something he says he wants, don't take that chance. Plus, I think Buss is likelier to try for a cheaper player or two and/or maybe a pick or two for Odom. He hates paying the lux tax. Odom is odd man out and even he must be able to see it thru that green cloud of smoke in the room.

baron davis was also traded for basically nothing. It was just the lakers turn to get a bargain.
