OT - Best draft years all time, by position
Just for fun, which draft year do you consider best for each position? I'll start it off:
I see the 2005 draft as quite possibly the best PG draft ever, with 4 potential all-star PGs, and two PGs who should eventually be starter quality:
Chris Paul
Deron Williams
Raymond Felton
Monta Ellis (I know he's a combo guard, but he plays the point a lot)
Jarrett Jack
Louis Williams
edit: you can add in Nate Robinson, Travis Diener and Roko Ukic as probable solid career backups as well.

It's a bit harder to split them up by position because many players played 2 positions or more. But I'll give it a try...
Point Guard:
1970... Pete Maravich, Nate Archibald, and Calvin Murphy.
The future looks bright?
2005... Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Raymond Felton, Monta Ellis, Nate Robinson, and Roko Ukic (haha).
Shooting Guard:
1996... Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Ray Allen.
Small Forward:
1982... James Worthy,Dominique Wilkins, and Terry Cummings.
2003... LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Josh Howard.
Power Forward:
1995... Kevin Garnett, Rasheed Wallace, and Antonio McDyess (great for first 5 seasons or so).
Center:
1976... Robert Parish, Moses Malone, and Artis Gilmore.
I think the 1984 Draft Class could've made up the best starting 5.
PG: John Stockton; SG: Michael Jordan, SF: nobody really, PF: Charles Barkley, C: Hakeem Olajuwon
It's interesting to see how some of the biggest names in NBA history - Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, etc. etc. all were drafted in years that their position didn't have much depth n such.

2005 was an awesome PG draft, but Ray Felton is a pretty overrated player. I think he'll be decent, but far from all star level.
Paul, Deron, Monta (arguable if he's a PG) are all super awesome and then you have guys like Felton, L. Williams, Jack who are all decent and of course Roko (yeah yeah, he hasn't proven jack, but I think he's gonna be good

Who is saying this? My understanding was that the 2006 draft was widely regarded as a weak draft year.

Baby Smitch, you're correct.
The draft is looking like it'll yield some productive players but heading into the draft, it was considered to lack big names at the top... hence how we ended up with Andrea. There was no consensus.
But, I think the draft has some decent players: Roy, Gay, Aldridge, Ronnie Brewer, Balkman, Rondo, Lowry, Farmar, Boone...
Ok, so maybe it wasn't that great...
