I guess he wouldn't play at all. Because he changed conferences and the choosing is over for the game.

Unless there's an injury to Nash, Paul, AI, then I could see him selected.

He'll play for the East because he was selected as a Eastern Conference player.

He would not start. The votes can't just transfer over, because he wouldn't get that exact number in the West all season.

this would be a interesting set of events if this would take place. i would imagine he wouldnt play at all but still atend the game. then calderon would get the all star spot with chauncy starting at point guard and jose calderon coming off the bench.

iverson played for the west last year (or would have...if he wasn't injured). but he was also traded in mid-december, not february.

after a certain date i think you play for the conference you were traded from. :dontknow:

If Jason Kidd gets traded to Dallas -- or any team in the West -- before the All-Star Game, it'll be certifiably historic.

That's because the NBA will have an unprecedented decision to make.

League officials say that a player voted in by the fans as an All-Star starter has never been traded to the other conference before the midseason classic was actually played. Which is also why the league is not prepared to say exactly what will happen if it has to deal with that scenario. It won't make a decision until it has to.

But the safe assumption, I'm told, is that Kidd would definitely still play in the game in those circumstances even if it meant allowing the West to carry a 13-man roster. You can't punish a player who's voted in as a starter by the fans.

The brain-teaser part for Commissioner Stern would be whether to make Kidd a starter in the West since his vote total (1,246,386) is higher than the total amassed (1,203,152) by Denver's Allen Iverson. In the East, longstanding rules in place dictate that Stern would pick the player that takes Kidd's roster spot and East coach Doc Rivers would have the right to pick the starter who replaces Kidd ... but then someone would have to decide whether the East should get a 13th man as well.

Calderon is not going to be an allstar.

I don't know what would happen, but I think he should just play in the East. Kidd has been officially voted in based on first half Eastern Conference play and should fulfill the honor as such.

Anything else seems to me overly complicated and a compromise

wow, what a great question and potential dilemma for the NBA.

But, how screwed up is the league and the all star voting process when a guy being voted a starter is being traded???

should not an all star starter be an untradable player?? something needs to change...

Well there is not much time left, I wonder if a deal will be struck during the all star break.

I remember in 1991 (i think it was) Ricky Pierce played in the ASG for the East representing Milwaukee, and I think he was traded a few days after the all star game and played his next NBA game in the West for Seattle.

The answer is, he should play on the East even if traded to the West now.

Why?

Because the all star selections (whether by fans or by coaches) is based on a CERTAIN TIME PERIOD. ie - the beginning of the season to the time voting closed. During that peroid, Jason Kidd was on the Nets. Bam, dilemma fixed.

He demanded a trade. So if he's traded in the West he shouldn't play at all. I mean, i doubt he cares anyway he wants that ring fellas. And ladies.

I'm willing that most likely though that if Jason Kidd is traded it will be after the all star game.

I would still think the East since that's where he became an All-Star this season
