+1 with keeping him right now. It just makes the most sense.

From ESPN.com:

This move, by contrast, is fantastic for them short-term and long-term, even if they still must prove that Odom has a future with the Lakers as an expensive fourth wheel and even though Bryant can still opt out of his contract and become a free agent after next season if he chooses.

But why would he flirt with leaving now? Gasol should prevent L.A. from losing any more momentum in the West while Bynum recuperates and sets Kobe up with a front line teeming with length and versatility when he, Bynum and Odom are all available.

And if it turns out those three can't play together? They can shop both Gasol and Odom in the offseason and decide which one to keep, depending on what sort of deals come in, conceivably doubling their chances of finding a good deal.

I suppose it's not inconceivable that Odom could be offered up in a Kidd trade scenario. But team sources say that's unlikely before the deadline after a move this big. It's more likely that the Lakers will focus on integrating Gasol.

Some interesting angles to look at. The bottom line, we have a number of options at our disposal, all of them positive.

Adding 2 all-star players like Kidd and Gasol and expecting the team to gel by the playoffs would be ridiculous.

We. Have. Odom.

15/9/5 6'10 to compliment Gasol, Bynum, & Kobe.

Its a BIG lineup that should do very well in the triangle.

Just for speculation sake but any interest on the Magic regarding Odom?

I know they've been looking at getting another PF-type player to play alongside Howard, that's why they've been going after Webber too. And they've been saying that both Lewis and Turkoglu are pretty much identical players in the front-line.

And since Turkoglu (with a much cheaper contract) is playing much better than the over-priced shooter Lewis, would they be inclined to swap Lewis for someone like Odom who posts up, slashes, and create plays? Both Odom/Lewis have almost similar salaries.

Would it be even a good trade for the Lakers to get a shooter like Lewis rather than stick with a play-making Odom?

orlando would want odom, mainly because SVG likes him from their days in miami.
they'd also give up lewis for him because of financial reasons. with the way hedo is playing - the lewis contract is a huge mistake.

still, there is NO way the lakers can take on that contract - even though it's a guarenteed championship.

this can only be a first step in a 3 way with lewis going to a third team.
but lewis for odom can't happen - and it's not because the magic won't want it...

Add Luke Walton and get Atlanta on the phone with Josh Smith.

Unfortunately,

"The Hawks are under the cap, but this trade puts them more than $100,000 over the cap, and their incoming salaries are greater than 125% plus $100,000 of their outgoing salaries. They need to cut $15,443,282 from the incoming trade value to get back within $100,000 of the salary cap and make this trade successful.

Incoming Players
Rashard Lewis
Salary: $14,884,951 Years Remaining: 6
PTS: 18.3 REB: 5.2 AST: 2.4 PER: 15.65

Luke Walton
Salary: $4,000,000 Years Remaining: 6
PTS: 7.1 REB: 3.6 AST: 3.0 PER: 10.99

Outgoing Players: Josh Smith"
