Turkoglu should definitely have JJ's spot and Jose should have Kidd's. But Kidd is the most undeserving of All Stars and one of the most overrated player in the NBA. If you can't shoot, you shouldn't be an All Star. J Kidd makes his team suffer as defences sag off him and collapse on his teammates. Triple doubles doesn't mean anything if you cant shoot and you steal rebounds from your own teammates.
All the top PGs in the league: Nash, Paul, Billups, Deron, Davis, Roy, Parker and Jose are leading their teams well above .500. Kidd? Well, he is the reason the Nets are where they are despite having 2 great players in VC and RJ.

I publicly apologise. I am sorry.
Damn, but seriously, this board does not even see JJ as talent. It's sad, the guy is a baler and a half.

Tonight in 30 minutes he was 1-10FG, 6 points 7 boards, 4 fouls.
He consistently gets 30mins or more and is hard pressed to produce a double digit scoring game. I can't even imagine how god awful he would be in a Raptors uniform. Thank goodness.
What about Bargnani's play during Dec-most of Jan?

Who else are you thinking of, then?
Johnson is the biggest name on that team, unless I missed Shaq being traded to Atlanta or something.
He was with the high-level Phx team that many people thought might have won the championship until JJ broke his nose (it was his nose, right?). Then he was involved in that well publicized trade and has been mentioned in All-Star talk ever since.
Who else were you thinking of?
EDIT: Is that last emoticon supposed to be Eddy Curry? Sometimes eating hamburgers, sometimes disappearing?
To say familiar name was probably a mistake because there is one other guy I can think of that gets just as much - if not more attention than JJ, and that is Josh Smith. Dagger mentioned it earlier that he believes Smith deserved it more, and I completely agree.
He might not be the leader of the team, but he is way more deserving of an All Star selection than Joe Johnson. We are talking about a guy who puts up the same amount of points, averages more rebounds, a few assists less, WAY better, (let me rephrase) light years better defensively, not to mention he is a lot more excitement in his game than a jumpshooting, lazy defending Joe Johnson.
But to say Johnson is the most familiar name on the Hawks (from a coaches stand-point) considering Smith is an up and coming star in this league, where as Johnson has a VC type career ahead of him - is bologna.

I think what happens with some players is that they are so gifted that we expect more than what we see.
Take Vince for instance, on paper no one should have a problem with having him on a team. The biggest problem is that we fall in love with the skills so much that we feel that the player should use his skills any time we see fit.
JJ is one of those players. He is a beast, gifted almost to a fault. Because of this people have higher expectations. In turn these players become bums in our eyes if they do not perform to our expectations
I guess we set our sights, if a player does better than we expect, we go nuts. If a player does not meet those expectations we do the opposite. Look at Bosh for instance, we already know what he is capable of, if the guy has a sub par game, people drag him through the mud.
If you like basketball you would be foolish to ignore JJ's game. He can do things others simply can't. Maybe not as often as we like, but there is something within that player that when on is unbeatable.

It's been done several times, but it's relatively rare:
