Lucas Trying to Land a Job with the Raptors?

Post#1 » by KG1585 » Tue Feb 5, 2008 2:08 pm

This is pure speculation, but with Lucas travelling with the team, is it possible that he is interested in an assistant coaching position with the Raps. The Miami announcers were saying that Lucas would love to get back into coaching again, and he has lots of experience as a coach and is close with a few of the players on the Raptors.

Even Doug Smith believes this is the case.

Was it just me

I think he would be a nice addition to the raptors staff very well respected by many players in the L

Interesting. Strength and conditioning coach?

Maybe his Bosh=Admiral comment on the other thread is his way of saying, give me a year with Bosh and I'll turn him into an offensive and defensive juggernaut.

How are his x's and o's? We've got the "jimmys and joes" aspect taken care of.

Q: I was at the Bucks game and noticed a new suit prominently involved on/in the Raptors bench/huddles, but haven't heard anything (even from you) about a new assistant. Chuck's blog mentioned something about assistant Eric Hughes. Is this a new assistant coach? What's the skinny on him?

As soon as i saw him sitting behind the bench last night, i said to my friend, "I hope he sticks around, they could use him"

I think he'd give the team a bit of an old school quality about them. Some tougher strength and conditioning training, which would probably keep our core guys like bosh, bargs, TJ, Jose in better shape well into their 30's. The post on arsenalist today mentions that he used to tell stories about his crack use though? that seems odd. I know he was a bit of a drinker in the past, but thought maybe that would be a positive for him around our younger guys. teach them a few things about life, and all that.

Regardless, i hope he's given a Hopla chance!

I dont think it is a matter of whether or not the raps would want Lucas as an assisstant as much as whether or not Lucas would take a job with the raps.

From what I understand, Lucas has been sought after by a couple coaching staffs in years past and has declined - prefering to stick with his training facility in Texas. I do not know if this has to do with him not wanting to be an assistant and was holding out for another head coaching gig, or that he simply loves what he was doing in Texas.. but I do believe he was offered assistant jobs in the (recent) past.

Should Lucas actually WANT to be with the raps, I think it would be completely foolish to not add him - if for no other reason then to be TJ's training coach... we have a lot of $$$ invested in TJ, I expect that BC would want to provide as much support as possible.

Plus I think Lucas can help toughen up Bargs a little...

Sam recently suggested Bargs go to Lucas' summer camp for that very reason.

What a bonus it would be to have him around the team all year.

Agreed.

If Lucas wants a job with us, I am pretty sure it would be his...

I think it'd be great for the team, maybe he could teach Bargniani how to use his 7"0 body to it's full potential

I'd be all for it, I think he'd have the same effect as Hopla. With Hopla you saw our shooting progressively pick up through the year, with Lucas the same would happen with the team - and more importantly Bargs - being more aggressive.
