That would be an excessive amount to give up for Gasol.

If we were to substitute Moon or Delfino with our first-round pick, I think I would've pulled the trigger.

Several deals on the list make more sense than ours. We drop four wing players leaving us with Kapono and Parker. Would leave us with a great lineup for a game of 3 on 3. Would have pushed us into luxury tax territory this year for sure and probably next year - well certainly next year once we added four wing players.

so who backs up Kapono at the 3? ... or who backs up Parker at the 2? ... or why does Chad Ford still carry any weight on here?

When asked about the trade, the Memphis GM stated that "[Kwame] Brown was the biggest expiring contract we could get"

The motivation here is crystal clear. Getting quality players was not the intent of this trade. By these standards, Chad Ford's 'offer' is much worse than the Lakers' deal.

Considering what L.A. gave up to acquire Pau, that San Antonio offer might have gotten it done, as well.

Tim Duncan/Fabricio Oberto
Pau Gasol/Matt Bonner
Bruce Bowen/Ime Udoka
Michael Finley/Manu Ginobili
Tony Parker/Damon Stouadmire

Eek.

I dont think Memphis does that deal. They wanted expiring contracts.

Also, adding Moon and Delfino into the mix is a lot too give up on our end

Doesn't matter who we substitute in the deal. The question is, would that have made us a contender, a la Boston? If so, then it's a deal you have to make.

No way that deal makes the Raptors a contender. No way.

Yeah...that deal does nothing. The area you can in, you become paer thin in what you gave up.

Most of those trades wouldn't work because Chad Ford completely dismisses the 15 contracts per team rule. Some of his deals are 6 for 1's. I'm assuming Memphis isn't interested in negotiating 5 or 6 buyouts at once.
Roy's the best player I've played against outside this guy from my hood in Queensbridge, guy named Mike Chaplain. He went to jail when he was 15 years old. He was the best player I played against, now it's Brandon Roy.

Who the hell is this guy and how much money is making on ESPN? I mean, he says this about Orlando:

Redick is a former lottery pick who can really shoot -- perhaps he's not a better prospect than Crittenton, but he's probably on the same tier. Vazquez is a better international prospect than Marc Gasol.

I had to stop reading at this point because this is like if I write an article about Curling. What he says about Toronto is also a nonsense. You are giving half of the team for a player, a good one, but you are giving important players, not an expiring contract ala Kwame Brown.

Vasquez was the 11th pick in the 2005 draft. He's easily a better prospet tan Marc Gasol, who was a late 2nd rounder.

ridiculous scenario. i think we can assume that, after shopping for a year, memphis expected roughly what they got. they would've wanted something similar. the two number ones may have been a babcock-like demand, so we could start with that, though they'd have to be futures. add a good young player, a salary dump and a question mark:

two future #1s ('09, '11, no protection)
rasho
hump
joey
juan

for

pau
brian cardinal

would our picks be better than the lakers? probably yes. we'd be much better, but not as good as they are now.

hump could actually have a big role with the grizz, unlike crittenton (whom i like) who is behind two great young PGs and rudy gay at the guard spots. is there a better PF in memphis?

who knows if marc gasol will be an nba player. take joey "?" graham, too.

rasho doesn't expire until next year, but he's better than kwame and we take back cardinal' terrible deal to compensate. juan comes off the books. salary dump? yessir.

seems comparable, and i'd do it.

"maceo? yeah, hi. you're playing tonight, behind chris bosh, pau gasol, and andrea bargnani. we'll draft your replacement in the spring, so give 'er like you always do".

am i crazy?

I don't know if this is a misunderstanding with my english but if what the guy is trying to say is that Vazquez is a more interesting player than Marc Gasol the only thing I can say is that he has never seen those two players. You can be sure you won't find anybody in Spain who thinks Vazquez is a better player than Marc. In fact, most of the people don't think Vazquez will play some day in the Nba.
