Carney

Post#1 » by CruThick » Tue Feb 5, 2008 5:14 pm

Does anyone have anything nice to say about him at all? I dont. I mean I cannot mention one redeeming basketball quality he has. He does not do anything well or good. Last night I cringed when he was in the game at crunchtime. He has zero confidence and only jacks shots up with the worst technique youll see. He cant guard anyone and he adds nothing at all to a team. So why would Mo have him out there in crunchtime? Mo is a terrible coach and I am tiring of hearing how Larry doesnt want to stab him in the back. We will need a new coach as bad as we need a power forward. Crazy nobody lobbies for that here.
When carney was drafted, most scouts or other gm's stated he shouldnt be in the NBA and we are still playing him. Thanks Billy King. I dont care what other say here, Billy King should choke on a chicken bone. He screwed us bad..and Im sure you all were as disgusted when we went arounf Brewer and others to grab Carney on loser Jon Calipari's recommendation!! Sick! poo!

I agree. But throughout the night Mo showed visible disgust with Carney. The camera seemed to zoom in on Mo's face every time Carney made a mistake. Mo looked like he was forced to play Carney in my opinion. I have no doubt that Ed forced Mo's hand. You could see Mo kinda holding back his disgust by swelling his cheeks bitting his lip and just shaking his head. Ed forced Mo's hand. He even admitted to telling Mo to play the young guys when he got the job.

Our coaching position should be upgraded but I place the playing of Carney on the shoulders of Ed. It's good that we are tanking...

I don't like Carney either, but its not hard to understand why he was in the game down the stretch last night with Thad in foul trouble and Atlanta having the size advantage on us playing Childress, Smith, Johnson, and Williams for heavy minutes. BTW, i disagree on Carney not being able to guard anyone.

So was Renaldo Nehemiah!! Doesn't make him a player! Ok he can guard a little..But so can a million players in europe or in the D-League. I do like that we are tanking games. Wish we did this last year. We need a new coach very badly. Most non-sixer fans I talk to who have the misfortune of seeing a sixer game always say how bad they think the sixers are coached. I hope Ed has his coach in mind. Mo is good for motivation and getting them to play hard for the most part, but cant coach his way out of a paper bag!

I sort of like his pull up jumper in the lane. he also is a decent on the ball shot blocker for a SG. Otherwise he looks to be utter garbage out there. I guy who shoot jumpshots at a 25% clip should not be shooting jumpers.

For some reason I still think he could be a decent role player in a few years, but right now he is often painful to watch.

I agree we are trying to get him more minutes (Ed has said as much.) I don't know if we are showcasing him or trying to speed his development. Either way, 4th quarter minutes are not in order unless we really are trying to tank.

In Mo's defense, it is hard to evaluate a coach based on execution when the players on the floor lack experience. It could be poor coaching or poor execution, or a combination of both.

A coach can be measured by the level of intensity and the progress of development of the young players. In this regard Mo is not doing a bad job.

Also- not even a HOF couch could get good, consistant half court execution from a young team bereft of shooter or post options.

I have given up on Carney, but as for why he was in the game late last night, I think that was mainly due to the score late. We were losing and needed 3pt shooters on the court in the last couple minutes. While Carney sucks at that, he's still better than most swings we have at it...so sad...

If that were the case, Lou, Willie, or even Giricek would have been a better option off the bench to knock down 3's. Carney is shooting a heinous 21% (9-41) from 3 this year. He was in the game down the stretch b/c Thad was in foul trouble and they had size on us w/ Childress, JJ, and Smith all out on the floor.

I've been an advocate for giving Carney more time before judging him, but it seems more and more likely that the kid isn't amounting to anything...

no, thats not even good. cause he is TOO fast, he shoots too fast, he throws up his layups too fast, he does everythign without thinking, he chucks up horrendous shots because he doesnt know how to take his time, he only has one speed and he doesnt know how to shift gears

usually it pisses me off when iguodala whines and makes faces at his teammates' play, but when he does it to carney it brings a smile to my face.

i have no sympathy for the guy. he was our first round draft pick, and he's going to be out of the league after next year and we'll have nothing to show for it.

amen brother! you win the prize for nailing it on the head! I kinda knew this when we drafted him. I kept researching and reading and reading hoping to find some scout's take that gave me hope that he would be a winning pick, and never found it. Whcih is sad considering his caeer hadnt started. The worst part of this is that if we had any chance of trading him now, it is lost since we are playing him!! Film dont lie..so at least if he was hidden on our bench, we wud have a chance of trading him on his potential!! Thats lost now!

^Why couldn't you have drafted his teammate Shawne Williams? Or Rajon Rondo? Or Renaldo Balkman? Or Josh Boone? Or Kyle Lowry? Or Sergio Rodriguez? Or Craig Smith? Or Daniel Gibson? Or Paul Millsap? Or Leon Powe?

At the time, a lot of these kids probably weren't better picks than Carney, but they've shown more. They've had a chance to, at least. Carney hasn't developed and hasn't been developed. It just happens.
