Why didn't Seattle trade for Gasol?

Post#1 » by mhd » Tue Feb 5, 2008 7:40 pm

They had just as many exprings (Kurt Thomas+West=Kwame), 1st round picks (they got 2 from the Kurt Thomas trade), and young players (Swift, Sene, Petro).

Why didn't they offer: Kurt Thomas+West+Sene+2#1's+Wilcox for Gasol+Cardinal?

I think both teams would have done that trade.

Because Gasol has a huge contract and the Sonics will go over the cap.

It has been mentioned many times that there are only a few teams that can go over the cap and pay the tax and the Lakers is one of them. The other one is the Knicks.

Besides, what's the point of having Gasol in Seattle anyways?

Only two teams that could have gotten gasol and thats lakers and Heat.

Lakers offered: Kwame+ mckie (10 mil expiring) + critton + picks + rights Mrac Gasol mvp candidate of Euro league and younger version of paul gasol.

Miami: Jason williams +Ricky davis (15 mil expiring) + filler + picks.

Difference is Miami would have to pay lux and be over the cap until shaq is done which they dont want and probably have not much of a chance at champ even if they get gasol.

why would the sonics trade for someone who is going to hate being there? they should be worried about developing youngsters, not trading for big money players that will take them from one of the worst teams to one of the better sucky teams.

1.) they wanted gasol to be happy... some teams actually CARE about their player and would like to see them have great success (like minnesota did with KG). Why would seattle want a player who is goign to be disgruntled like basically all the other veterans on that seattle team. Seattle is rebuilding so they want youth... why the hell would they trade away that youth for someone who is older and expensive... as well as unhappy?

2.) Miami trade: no young player going to memphis just picks (which are high picks, but in the Leastern conference there is a chance miami picks up with gasol and wade and make it to playoffs becoming a possible low pick.

Why would they?

No matter what happens the Sonics are not making the playoffs this year, so why give up draft picks and talent.

The Sonics are all about Durant, Green and hopefully a top 3 pick in the upcoming draft. Can you imagine adding Beasley to that mix? Dangerous. Sonics are thinking future, not present.

It was Heisley (president or owner) that said he was the one who decided on the trade... not the GM and not Jerry West...

Was there this much conspiracy theories when Rasheed Wallace went to Detroit for scrubs?

Theres just something totally shady about this whole trade..either a) every GM was asleep at the wheel and the lakers snapped him up or b) he was going to the Lakers no matter what.

Dont forget that Gasol is also pretty whiny lately about where he wants to play. I dont think he would have agreed to a Sonics trade.
