Shaq to Suns close?!- Miami Herald, Rotoworld

Post#1 » by Mahorn at the 4 » Tue Feb 5, 2008 11:46 pm

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... NBA&id=245

A Heat insider on the Heat forums, plus the Miami herald and Rotoworld, are saying that Shaq is close to going to the Suns for Marion and Marcus Banks.

Wow!!! This would be a huge gamble for the Suns, but can you imagine Amare and Shaq in the front court being fed passes by Nash?

Phx, because of Nash, is my 2nd fav. team. This would make the WC that much more competitive.

...don't like the fit at all. very perplexing move, especially for a team as financially tight as the suns.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

Wow that's a great trade. Now Shaq will not have to work so hard to get position. Nash can pass a basketball through a key hole...

So I guess this means Shaq's been faking the injury he's had the last month and a half? Otherwise this is silly on the Suns part.

I can't see phoenix doing this. Shaq is clearly finished and I don't see how they really benefit by adding a declining, banged up shaq in his mid-30's along with his dinosauric contract.

BTW... ESPN just announced the rumor as well... I'd be surprised if this went down

Shaq is finished but that is only for any team that doesn't have Nash or Lebron....

He's got Dwyane Wade and a 9-37 record. He's finished.. I don't care if god is on his team.

How the heck would they run that offense with Shaq there? No way Shaq can get up and down the court at the pace the Suns play at. If this happens, they will realy need to slow things down.

Don't get it at all from the Suns standpoint. I could see if it was someone like Diaw + filler for Shaq, but why Marion?

Wade is no Nash or Lebron and he has proven that this season...

Maybe Shaq has been pulling a VC in Toronto, and will return to his HOF days if he gets traded to Phoenix

The Suns would be stupid to make this trade. There are many other options that they could use at Center, that may fit better next to Amare than Shaq.

Some names that come to mind....

Biedrins(re-signed)
Dalembert
Diop

Maybe even someone like Gadzuric.

The Matrix can opt out at the end of the season so this trade makes perfect sense.

Shaq

Post#12 » by Mahorn at the 4 » Wed Feb 6, 2008 12:10 am

The Diesel would give Phx a quality post presence for those tight playoff games against Dallas and SA.

Shaq, if utilized properly by a contending team, would still be a very valuable piece. In Phx he could rotate with Amare and Diaw to fill the 4-5 spots. This would keep his minutes down and his effectiveness up.

This is a dangerous move for Phx, but it could very well pay off with a NBA title.[/i]

If Marion opts out, it's even better for Phoenix. They are getting stuck with that horrible contract of Shaq's. That is much worse than having Marion walk and using his $$ on someone else who has something left in the tank.

I believe the Suns would still be over the salary cap, and even if they were under what would it be by $2 million or something? Great trade concept the Lakers have Gasol and Bynum. The Suns know what they are doing. This will also perhaps put a spark back in Diaw's game.

The will be but they will have the MLE to use and a lot of guys want to play in Phoenix, so I'm sure they could sign someone for about 5-6 mil who offers as much as Shaq at this point.

Until he fouled out with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.

This is a move someone like Dallas would make because they have a lot of depth. The Suns basically play 6 people. Marion has led the team in minutes the last 3 years. Trading for someone who maxes out at 30 MPG now (Let alone in 3 years) makes zero sense.

Even if it was Dallas, I'd still need to see him come back and play before making such a big commitment.

Shaq is done. I can't believe Phoenix is thinking about doing this deal.

I see all kinds of problems with this deal.

1) Shaq has little to nothing left in the tank and just had his hip re-examined YESTERDAY.

2) Financially this deal makes NO sense for a Phoenix ownership that is extremely tight when it comes to spending a dollar (see: Kurt Thomas and 2 first round picks to Seattle for a 2nd Rd pick).

3) If this trade goes through, I imagine this deal would kill any chance of the Sixers getting Amare in the off-season since Phoenix is going to push for a title while Shaq and Nash can still walk.

And oh yeah... Marion isn't going to opt-out of $17MIL when no team can sign him for that amount.
