Rondo and other starting Point Guards

My friend (raps4life~) and I were having an argument about Rondo.

He feels that Rondo is a bottom 10 starting PG in the league. I, on the other hand, feel Rondo's great defense makes up for his lack of play making skills, and he is a decent starting PG in the league. I would rank him in the middle of the pack, per haps 11-16.

What is your opinion on this? Where does he rank among starting PG's?

Obviously everyone with a brain would agree with you. Rondo is a great PG, and still is improving. He's definetely in the 11-16 range and I can only see him getting better.

raps4life~ also believes Raymond Felton is a superior PG than Rondo as well.

He also feels Hinrich is having a better season.

Also, he thinks alston + blake + telfair own Rondo, is he just a hater?

i would clearly take the bolded players....i think thats 17 Point Guards...and thats not even considering players who could play the point, but aren't listed here that i would likely take ahead of Rondo, like Barbosa, Iverson, Brandon Roy, and maybe a couple others...

so yeah...i'll put him in the bottom 10....

i think having the Big 3 on his team hides his weaknesses and causes him to look better than he may be. Though playing with those players will certainly help him become better over time.

That's not true IMO. Playing with the big 3 hurts his game since he's much more tentative and has less opportunities to penetrate and run...which are his strengths. Instead, Rondo is forced to take more jumpers and even though he is open, it's not one of his strengths. In games where at least 1 one the big 3 was out, Rondo's stats have been:

I'd currently take all of those guys over Rondo on my team. So yes bottom 10.

EDIT: Sure you have guys like Ford/Calderon, Ellis, and Terry sprinkled in there but with other guys being arguable, you really can't make a strong case for him being in the top 18.

His D hasn't been as good as advertised as he has been LIT up by many PG's this season

Rondo is deffinately a bottom 10 PG, but you are right that he is improving and has a bright future.

He's young, and is only going to get better, but at this point he is maybe a bottom ten starter. Ignoring injuries, I'd say he could start on the following teams:

New York (Marbury)
Cleveland (Hughes)
Atlanta (Johnson)
Miami (Williams)
Memphis (Conley?)
Houston (Alston)
Seattle (Watson)
Minnesota (Telfair)
Portland (Blake?)
and Denver if you don't count Iverson as the starting PG

If he's better than these 10-11 starting PGs (and it's questionable with a few of them), that makes him a bottom 11 to bottom 12 PG.

^I'd definitely take Steve Blake over Rondo. & I don't think Rondo has the 3 point range that's needed to start for Houston or Cleveland.

No better than bottom 5. His defense is tremendously overrated and he hasn't got much offensive game.

Still though, will get better in the future but I don't ever see him as any more than an average PG
