Phoenix is taking a gamble that could very well pay off as I think Shaq still has a run or two left in him.

Smart on Riley's part? Maybe. There's a special place in hell for Riley. I'd say that he might use people and dump them more than anyone in the league. First, Stan. Now Shaq? Shaq got him the title he wanted so badly to make him relevant again. You couldn't pay me enough to work for that guy or to have a close relationship of any kind with him. He would stab his own mother in the back.

This definitely would be an interesting move. Great move for Miami but I'm not so sure for Phoenix. I'd go for it if I were getting a healthy Shaq, even with the career low numbers. A healthy Shaq is still better than any other big man in the league except Dwight, although his experience gives him an edge.
As for Phoenix, even though Steve Nash gets all the credit for the Suns' success, I really believe that Shawn Marion has almost as much to do with that success as Nash. Shawn Marion is a guy that can play either guard or forward positions offensively and defend those same spots. He can shoot the 3, he can cut to the basket and is a finisher. I really think Phoenix is going to miss him more than they think.

Why hate on Pat? Why wouldn't he want to trade an oft injured and rapidly declining Shaq for Marion?

Because Riley brought Shaq there to get Riley another title. Now that Shaq helped him get that title, he's going to throw him away whereever he can get rid of him. I know what Shaq's situation was. He knew what Shaq's situation was when he brought him there, too. Now that Riley got what he wanted, he's ready to throw out the Big Fella with yesterday's garbage. Same as when Riley didn't want to coach the Heat team until Stan got them ready, then he pushed Stan out of the way and took over. Apparently, no one is too big for him to step on if he thinks he personally can look better.

It's business.
Shaq has a 20 million contract for this and next season. He's not going to be remotely worth it. He's having hip problems now.
If the team can get an all-star to replace him ... why not?
I understand a dislike for Pat, but that doesn't mean everything single thing he does is backstabbing, deceitful and manipulative.
This is an extremely smart move it's true.

How is Riley throwing Shaq away? Shaq brought him a title, Riley gave him a new max contract, when he probably knew that Shaq might not be able to play for the duration of the contract and now he's possibly sending Shaq to a team heavily favored to win the championship. You'd have a point if he sent Shaq to a team that has no chance of going anywhere but I don't see it as a loss for Shaq whatsoever.

Aside from going to a place he may have no desire to go to.
He obviously likes Florida and/or Riles for whatever reason.

It will be interesting watching Shaq get up and down the court with Amare, Leandro Barbosa and Steve Nash....That's all I've got to say.
For what it's worth, Shaq has turned on organizations when he has been done with them, too -- including the Magic when he left for L.A.
And no doubt it's a business. But to me, guys like Riley are like the fictional Gordon Gekko. And people who operate like that might be good business people. But they aren't good people.

A couple of things:
Shaq with Nash and Amare? That will be interesting to watch, to say the least. I remember a while back there was a thread about wanting Amare here and a lot said Amare and Dwight can't play together. I guess we'll see if that is true.
Kind of funny that Shaq would go from Miami to Phoenix. From one epicenter of retired folks to another.
Finally, what are the Magic implications of this. Someone asked, does this affect any trades with Miami? My opinion is it helps us and perhaps moves us towards a deal for Haslem and maybe Smush. Banks would replace Smush, and Marion could easily be the replacement for Udonis. It would also trim $$$ to resign Marion.
Thoughts?

and i'll take Smush a 100 times over to get Haslem and thats word...
Ok but isnt the goal a championship? Not saving money.. How they gonna win with a C who isnt as dominating as he was and is hurt 3/4 the season?
