Who on PHX can now guard Dirk? Who can guard Howard?
Hell, who in PHX can play any defense at all? Only guys I can think of are Hill and Bell and both of them will be absolutely torched if put on Nowitzki or Howard as they just aren't big enough and Hill isn't even half the defender he used to be. We will absolutely TORCH the Suns now. Hell, every team in the league will because no one on that team other then Bell and Hill play any defense now that Marion is gone. I can't believe a team as woeful defensively as PHX would trade away their best defensive player. On offense we got Dampier on Shaq, Harris on Nash. We also got Josh Howard on Amare now that he's all gimpy and just shoots.
WOOOOOOW. THANK YOU RILEY! THANK YOU FOR TAKING MARION AWAY
I think every western conference playoff team loves this trade.... Hell even Western conference lottery teams love this trade... How dumb can Phoenix be?? No, really???

Shaq was bad last year.... He was horrible in the playoffs last year.... He has been dreadful so far this season....
He has been declining for a while now and I think that became apparent when he averaged 13 ppg against the freakin Dallas Mavericks in a 7 game series... Anyone that thinks he will suddenly become a great player again (or at least have the same impact as Shawn Marion) is crazy

yeahh seriously, i don't think that shaq can provide the 19ppg that Marion did. I honeslty cant see him getting any more than 15ppg now, and thats if he's passed to with great regularity which is highly unlikely with STAT on the team. So for a team based on high octane scoring, where are those extra points going to come from? Where is the equivalent of Marion's defense going to come from?

He's done great with that for Heat. Hell no wonder he gets in foul trouble not only that he's free throw shot = liability offensively. Kerr just pulled the trigger without thinking deeply or having some patience.AnDrOiDKing4 wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
Shaq may not be mobile as he use to be but he is still a big body that can clog the lane, add that with Amare, and Skinner off the bench, i dont think you will see teams taking it to the bucket as much vs the Suns.

Shaq puts in 0 effort defensively most of the time, and even when he does he just ends up fouling. Add that to Amare not knowing what defense is and you end up with a defensive frontcourt to rival Curry-Randolf

For some reason, I like this deal for Phoenix. They weren't going anywhere with Marion anyways and it was rumored he was stirring up trouble within the locker room. So maybe this was the right time for him to move on.
Shaq clearly had lost his motivation in Miami this season, there really wasn't much to play for, his teammates sucked and Wade's game has regressed. Riley had done a really poor job surrounding him and Wade with sufficient talent to compete even in the lowly East.
Enter PHX now, all of a sudden there's a lot to play for and look forward too, he's back in the West, he's playing on a contender, he gets to play along with Steve Nash and a really solid supporting cast. There's a great opportunity for him here to change the perception about him being finished and having nothing left in the tank.
If he could help bring a championship to Phoenix after what has transpired with him the last couple of seasons, I don't think there would be anything left for him to do in his career. He would have accomplished it all.
On the other hand, win situation for Miami as well. They are toast with or without Shaq this season and they're going into rebuild mode. All of a sudden the future looks a little brighter with Marion. You give Wade another very good player to work with, still in his prime under 30. You add Haslem into the mix, another high pick (although the addition of Marion could hurt that) and even if Marion bolts this off-season, you've cleared away tonnes of cap much sooner then expected.

Put someone in a different situation, atmosphere and give him something to play for, that extra motivation will go a long, long way.
Playing through injuries, give that extra effort, wanting to accomplish something, prove the doubters wrong. You can't underestimate what he's capable of.
Plus he might get the chance to stick it to Kobe? Forget about it, we're talking prime Shaq back from the future.

There would be a greater chance of that happening if this was a few years back.Dont forget Shaq's age.Kosta wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

what about getting back on defense when you are playing a running game?NCHeels2008 wrote:esp. after talking about it with tsherkin, i like this deal for both teams as well as the webber pickup for GS. people forget a running attack doesnt require all 5 guys running, in fact its critical your big man(or men) secure the rebound and let loose a good outlet pass, shaqs capable of that
