No longer confident they can win a championship with their current roster, the Phoenix Suns are close to completing a blockbuster trade that will bring them Shaquille O'Neal, a source with knowledge of the negotiations said Tuesday.
O'Neal is scheduled to travel to Phoenix aboard a private plane Wednesday, the source said, to undergo an MRI on his ailing left hip. If he passes the physical, the Suns will complete the trade by sending Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to the Miami Heat.
The Miami Herald first reported the Suns and Heat were in serious trade discussions involving O'Neal.

how the hell is realgm and the NBA gonna cope with the suns lakers rivalry now>?????? WTF!!!
man, as a suns fan i recognise the lakers are a great and worthy opponent and would prefer to face denver or golden state in the first round, BUT as a NBA fan, i will feel robbed if the suns and lakers dont meet in the playoffs
it just HAS to happen, how freakin awesome would a 7 game series be between those 2??

I feel for you guys, I really do. All those chances but then the sold picks, the squandered MLE money and now this...
As a proud Canadian (Steve Nash FTW!) and a guy who always thought you were a piece or two away from winning it all, I'm truly sad. This move will spell the end of the Suns.
I can only assume the reasoning is that Shaq will really retire at the end of this season, coming off the books and saving the Suns a whack of cash.

Houston tried to trade Horry for Sean Elliot but the trade was voided when Elliot failed the physical so yea it's not officially official yet...
btw, Horry that year won a title there...

The 2005-06 Suns will always have a special place in my heart

Nope. I posted this earlier on the Bucks board:
Mags FTW wrote:I think this is a reactionary move by Kerr to the Suns' home loss to the Parker-less Spurs last week. He probably doesn't think they can beat them in a 7 game series, and maybe the Lakers as well. He feels he just has to do something and hopes he catches lightning in a bottle.

From everything I have heard tonight, you are exactly correct with that assessment. Nicely done.
I'm not sure if GAD's reputation extends beyond our board, but he has inside sources and is very reliable and accurate with his info.
The ultimate goal in this league is to win a championship and this is Kerr's "all-in" gamble to get one. It will probably hurt the team in the long-run a la Miami, but PHX has done everything (MVPs, division titles, #1 seeds) except get to the Finals.

if I as a spursfan cheer for this trade to happen, its not a good sigh for suns-fans!
whill be fun if it goes down...a shaq-stat-frontcourt may not stop anyone from scoring, but they will be nice targets for nash!
OT: Plz take a look at the link in my sig...there are only 1 slot open in the 08-fanatsy-draft (starting after the Allstargame) and it would be a pity if you miss it!

They pass in the NBA, too. What happened with Elliot was that the Rockets discovered his medical condition (Focal Segmental Glumerlosclerosis) while giving him his physical. I don't know if the Pistons knew beforehand.
Usually, what happens is, the team in question is informed of the extent of the injury (Shaq had an MRI in Miami on Monday) and given the chance to verify that that's all that's wrong with him. The Suns know his medical condition perfectly. They're going to make sure that, other than his hip, he's physically ready to go, and that his hip is in exactly the condition that Miami says it's in. My guess is, that's not as bad as people think.
Their's a lot of speculation in Miami that Shaq has been sitting out because the Heat wanted him to, not because he's seriously injured...
