We need 3 guys who can get us around 60+ efficient points per game, while playing at least average defense. Those three need to be able to do that every game. Then we need role players who have complementary skills compared to those 3 players. Then we need a veteran coach who has credibility.
We have 1 guy in Michael Redd who fulfills the first requirement. We have another in Andrew Bogut who POSSIBLY could. We have role players who play outside of their roles, because they are trying to fill the scoring void. We have young players who don't want to fill roles, because they want to get paid. We have a coach with no credibility.
What I would recommend, is that the team trades for 2 guys who can together with Michael Redd get us around 60+ points, and then hire a veteran coach that has credibility. The role players will then have roles, and the youth will have to pay it's dues.

Very good...RingtheBell wrote:Ronnie Brewer, Devin Harris and Sean Williams would be my first 3 choices.
You are at least on the right track...These are all good young stars but perhaps too inexperienced. But I like it.
Ii would make a push to bring in a vet though. But the Bucks' should have drafted Sean Williams.
He is gonna be a force if he learns to buckle down and can be taught by a wily vet in New Jersey.
Now that Stromile Swift is there, and you got Josh Boone, I wonder if we might move Gadzuric, Mo Williams or Charlie Bell and Villanueva to New Jersey for Antoine Wright, Vince Carter and or Sean Williams or Marcus Williams and a pick?
I don't know...

Outside of the stars (Elton Brand for example, not sold on Yi at all unfortunately) and without pulling any blockbsters
I'd like a veteran enforcer type player (like Krt Thomas) to help the frontcourt and add some variety. Failing that I'd like to pickup a junkyard dog type player like Fabricio Oberto or Bruce Bowen (UFA). I'd make a play for Jose Calderon (RFA?) as well. I'd draft a SF athlete in the 1st rnd as IMO college bball intelligence does not = nba intelligence at the point.
I'd prefer to keep des over simmons bt prefer to get rid of both. And obviously you have to shift one of the guards, AS it stands yo also probably have to move CV despite being the better player over Yi. I'd like to keep CV bt its not fair to him as it seems the bucks have pt all their $$ on Yi
C - Bogut/Thomas
PF - Yi/Oberto
SF - rookie????/Bowen
SG - Redd/Mo/Bell
PG - Calderon/Mo
I think that represents a lot better balance, the subs are excelllent at what they do. Bowen can still hit the three and is still an excellent perimeter defender. You can alleviate some of the backcourt defensive issues depending on matchps. Yo have one bonafide scorer on the second unit where mo could effectively launch a shot per minute while on the floor. (;ile what Manu does or did in SA and Jason Terry in Dallas)

Any winning NBA club needs three above average NBA players (guys who can win games for you on both ends of the court), two or three rugged role players (Kurt Thomas / Raja Bell types), and one or two skill role players (Damon Jones / Jason Kapano). And I don't drop those names as specific guys to target, rather to suggest the type of guys we need. We also need a GM allowed to make his own decisions and a coach with credibility and management backing.
Then... we need to sit back for two to three years to let that mix develop chemistry and grow together.
The swirling toilet bowl of the last several years (franchise up for sale then down for safety, TJ drafted then traded, Mike James signed then traded, Porter hired/fired, Stotts hired/fired, Kohl pretending like he is merely an observer while he in fact has his hands in everything, etc...) well that all is pretty much the opposite of how a winning organization handles its business.
If I were consulted to fix this mess, I would
1) Move either Mo or Redd, depending on who garners wider interest around the league. Together the Bucks simply lack the perimiter defense needed to win night in and night out
2) Establish throughout the organization fromt he top down that this is Bogut's team
3) Groom Yi to be the power forward of the future, as I have no doubt that he has Nowitski potential... and if he falls short of that lofty speculation, there would be a huge trade market for him too
4) Create a culture with enough depth where any player who is not giving consistant defensive effort and consistently swinging the ball on offense loses minutes to someone else on the roster
5) Tell Kohl to lose the whole passive aggresive thing, and either become a vocal mouthpiece type owner or truly step back and let the basketball people run things. Kohl reminds me of Abe P in Washington.. they want you to think they are kind grandfather types overseeing a happy family.. but they are cutthroat businessmen who medle in everything and have kept once proud franchises down for years...
And to answer the original question directly... I think are one Redd for Josh Howard trade away from being a 45 win club with a bright future...
