I think we will have to acquire someone else in this trade (or a same day signing) because trading 2 for 1 will leave us with 12 players I believe.

And I think the league minimum is now 13 players?

..

Wouldn't mind that D Wade guy, I hear he's pretty good..

^^^^Correct. We'll have to sign someone. I think we'll grab another big who fits our new system, like Tractor Traylor.

I think the Lakers have something to say about that..... Bynum, Odom, Gasol > Shaq, Amare, G Hill. I mean I love the suns as all Canadians do but I would rather the Lakers frontcourt anyday.

I think it's more Diaw/ Amare/ Shaq vs Odom/ Gasol/ Bynum.. all are inside guys, both Diaw and Odom are PFs that can play some SF (but are a bit big and slow compared to most of the leagues SF's)..

Odom > Diaw
Gasol < Amare
Bynum n/a Shaq (by virtue of Bynum being out for the season)

Ariza/ Walton/ Radman etc < Hill

I'm ambivalent towards the deal, but I understand why the Suns are doing it. If they stand pat, they will probably make the 2nd or 3rd round and then lose to the Lakers or the Spurs. I doubt this team (as it looked before the trade) would win the title. With Shaq, you have a better chance at the title, but also a better chance at a worse seed and an early exit.

At this point, why not take the gamble? We lose Banks' salary and attitude, as well as Shawn's fragile ego so the clubhouse should be a heck of a lot better. From a financial standpoint, the deal saves us $2 million this season and only costs $10 mil more after that if all players finish their contract (Banks+Marion= $31 mil, Shaq = $40 mil). If Shaq retires after next season, it's a $10 million savings for Phoenix.

To be honest, I was beginning to dread the end of this season as the team seemed to lack life or energy. When the "no handcheck calls" playoffs started, I was thinking the Suns might not make it past the 2nd round. Now, I have a little hope in that Phoenix can play a half-court game and the move frees up Amare to be a dominating PF, not get locked up with Duncan/Bynum/Chandler/Boozer all night and get in foul trouble.

Yeah, but what if Shaq is so rejuvenated by the trade that he returns to his 00-01 form? And what if Grant Hill is so rejuvenated by the presence of Shaq that he returns to his Pistons production? I think that would be a better frontcourt.

jlove_26 wrote:Why not do another trade? We'd lose Amare but we get better overall and deeper. Maybe something like this.

Suns Trade: Amare/Tucker/Strawberry/Atl pick
Bobcats Trade: Wallace/Emeka/McGinnis

Depth:
Nash/McGinnis
Bell/Barbosa
Wallace/Hill
Emeka/Diaw
Shaq/Skinner

We get Emeka to play next to Shaq. Emeka is a 13/10 guy and Wallace is a 22/6/4 guy plus we get a vet back-up for Nash. The reasoning that the Suns traded Marion instead of Amare was age and confidence in his team. Marion has wanted out and was causing chemistry problems. With that, the Suns get the Marion replacement in Wallace and they get the Amare light replacement in Emeka.

Real quick........... WAKE THE F-UP!!!!!

The Bobcats aren't even shopping any of those players. Stop creating dream scenarios in order to rip on this trade.

I don't think losing Marion will hurt that bad like everyone is saying. I think mainly Diaw will benefit from it because he can basically give us the same thing Marion can.

this is the second biggest trade in suns history, getting shaq is amazing, will miss marion, but also am relieved alittle with his departure.

shaq = championships, he will bring us one, i quarantee it, i can already see him going 125% to try to be the lakers, this is un-real fellas, and we get rid of banks? doesnt get any better than this, amare going back to PF also. kerr exec. of year with this move.

also who knows what the real trade is, i hope we get haslim from them also, or a point guard, that white point guard guy isnt that bad, i cant remember his name from them.

And if we don't we become Miami next season?

I think this trade was made because of the Kwame Brown Rule. Shaq is way overpaid for his current production. But next year Shaq will have 1 year left on his contract, thus being really valuable to teams who want to break up the team and get under the cap to rebuild. If this trade goes through the Suns can trade shaqs expiring contract to a rebuilding team for a player in the gasol quality. Will losing Marion and Banks really affect the suns this year? I doubt it unless their is injuries and in the west a bad injury will push any of the top 10 lotto anyhow it is too competive. So this trade is made for shaqs trade value next year. That is about 20 mil in salary.

Chill the hell out there sunshine. I'm not hating this trade. I think it's for the better of the team at this point. I'm looking at other moves that would help us even more in getting the title THIS YEAR.

Bynum is way better than Shaq rightnow. Only advantage yall have is Amare. That advantage can be taken away with with a few passes to Pau to get Amare in foul trouble. Shaq? A few Lobs to Bynum and he's on the bench also. Mihm should be back come playoff time too and some of his best games came vs Shaq  Amare also has a problem defending Ronny so I guess yall have to through yall shot blocker at him.

Bynum is way better than Shaq rightnow. quote]

Right now (and for at least the next 8 weeks) Bynum is somewhere nursing a bum knee. And as far as I know, it's pretty hard to play basketball from the couch, unless you're talking video games of course. But you're right, on NBA 2008 Bynum probably is better than Shaq right now.
