Phx fans for years now "Kobe only won cuz of Shaq"

Post#1 » by mrfatwrecker » Wed Feb 6, 2008 5:49 pm

So as a Laker fan going to school at the U of A in Tucson, I make the trip to PHX to see practically every Laker game. The fans there are rabid, and a lot of them actually don't know basketball, which makes for a bad combination.

For years now, they've fallen on the excuse that Kobe is overrated and he only won 3 rings because he had Shaq by his side. Well, now the Suns have Shaq. So it looks like Stevie Nash needs Shaq just to get to the Conference Finals. I can't wait to hear why the situation is different for the Suns than it was for Kobe. Kobe needed Shaq more, right?

As far as I know...Nash went to the conference finals a couple times already with the Suns. I don't think Shaq was on the team then either.

You're comparing Shaq of today to the Shaq of 5 years ago?

exactly..shaq isnt half the player he used to be when the lakers went to the finals, but think of how easy the game is gonna be for him with nash at the point, and amare playing next to him in the post

suns had nothing to lose with this deal since marion apparently thinks he would be happier on a losing team as long as he gets paid..good trade for the suns, (Please Use More Appropriate Word) for the heat, who will probably lose marion anyways

im not a suns or lakers fan by any means, but its quite obvious that you are bitter about the suns making a move that counters the gasol deal

Shaq wouldn't have won 3 championships without Kobe, Phil Jackson, Robery Horry, etc.

Just like none of those people would have won 3 championships with the Lakers without Shaq.

Are you one of those fans that don't know basketball. You do realize that Steve Nash has led the Suns to two conference finals in the past three years, right?

You should always make sure you know what your talking about when you put down an entire fan base, or you come out looking like an ass.

Kobe is really good. Shaq used to be really good. Back when they were both with the Lakers, Shaq was the better player by a decent margin, but now, Kobe is much, much, much better than Shaq.

Kobe needing good teammates doesn't mean he sucks. How many titles did Jordan win without Pippen? How many titles did Magic win without Kareem? For that matter, how many titles did Kareem win without either Magic or the Big O?

On the contrary, I'm ecstatic about the trade because it is going to make beating the suns 10x sweeter. Knock out Shaq AND the suns at once? Too good to be true.

Why dont you guys stop hating, and worry about ya'll own team instead of worrying about the lakers and maybe you can have a solid team that can go somewhere, and stop trying to keep tabs on what the Jone's are doing. You got Shaq now "Woopty - Doo" ya'll should have kept Shawn Marion! but im glad ya'll didnt, now if miami dont sign him for a extention he will become a free agent and come next year when we drop lamar odom we can pick up S. Marion" and when next year comes and we see you guys again, only this time shawn will be with us!! Yeah ya'll better be Real Scared, of the Purple & Gold!!!!!! :wavefinger: :wavefinger: :wavefinger:

I'm actually a laker's fan that likes the suns because of steve nash, amare, marion, and barbosa! I love the way those guys play... The reasons why I cant stand the suns in the same right was because of the D antoni and Raja Bell!! Talk about cry babies!

I think this trade messes up the run and gun style! Some say it will give the option of playing half court as well, but I don't know how effective it will be. Shaq is foul prone now! He's still a presence inside but no where near what he use to be. Steve Nash will only be able to hide that for so long! You guys dont know what it feels like to have him on the free throw line with the game on the line!!!!! :banghead:

Benifits... True Center, Inside presence, Amare gets to go back to the four where he belongs!

Downfalls... Injured dam near every season, misses a load of games, Cant shoot free throws! Cant defend the pick and roll, Ego is larger than the city of Phoenix! 20 million eating away at your salary cap for a part time player that plays his way into shape instead of coming into the season into shape. Seriously! This dude is LAZY!!!!!

Also! What kind of team player is he??? Look at the mess he left D Wade with in miami!!! Every time things get a little rough, this dude wants a trade! How long until he turns his back on you guys!?

Thats why I want to say GOOD LUCK!!!!
Thanks,

Ummm...that's your owner that fears the tax. You do realize you're talking about Dr. Buss don't you? I'm pretty sure we're actually going to add salary next year, not subtract. Artest for MLE

These threads is what makes sites lame and turns off members. A team is a team like some said earlier about Lakers wouldn't have won without Magic, Celtics without Bird etc. who cares. Yeah we won with Shaq and Kobe, thanks to them they gave us (L.A.) 3 great championships. Shaq was badass, so what.

Now the Phoenix have Shaq, they may win with him as well, so what. As much as I despise the Suns, it may happen. Shaq isn't the physical beast he once was, but he is one of the most humble and smartest players the NBA has ever seen. He will make a difference (imho you got the better part of the deal, Marion is an overrated cry-baby who the Suns should say good riddance to. :opinion off, ignore if you must:).

What my post and point comes down to, a team is a team, embrace yours and saying your team only won because of your team has this player or because of that trade ocurred sounds utterly stupid and incompetent of professional sports. A team wins with good players, Coaches, Front office management, GMs and owners.

As for Shaq to the Suns, you will love him, he is entertaining to watch and will be very motivated. I wouldn't count him done quite just yet.

Many Lakers fans like to crap on Shaq because he wanted out of L.A. But they forget all the things he did over here. I remember when Shaq first came to the Lakers, he was absolutely dominant. He put up 30-40 point games at 60% all the time, until Kobe started hogging the ball. He was the reason why the Lakers were able to get past the Kings. He literally fouled out 2 players every game in that series. Kings used an 8 man rotation; which is what hurt them so bad.

Kobe was not as good of a player back then as he is today. Everyone seems to forget that. Kobe had his choking moments, and his turnovers, and his inconsistencies back then. Meanwhile Shaq was at his peak. Yea right Kobe didn't need Shaq.

Shaq averaged 30-15 in the playoffs with LA.
He averaged 18-9 in the playoffs with Miami.

Those numbers are gonna be even lower with PHX..not the same thing sorry.

One, please type/speak proper english. Reading your post gave me a headache.

Two, this is our board and you're the one bringing the "hating". I don't post on the Laker's board, please refrain from posting on ours if you're going to post this nonsense.

Did you thought about that the other way around?? What about being eliminated by the Suns AGAIN and to add to injury by the Suns AND Shaq??? Be careful kiddo! LOL!

(Note: quote from Chrice above, reply came too late)

They needed each other, just like the Lakers need Fox to go after garbage, just like we needed Fish and Horry for their clutch shootng, just like we need Shaw for his intelligence and experience. A team is a team and you need a combined effort to win.

Anyhow Shaq will fit in nicely with the Suns. Embrace him.

Go Lakers!
