I love the trade, if Shaq is motivated and playing for his legacy. Marion, while a very nice player, is much like Kenyon Martin used to be with the Nets and Kidd. I didn't think the Suns had a shot at the title with their old lineup, and now I think they will take the whole thing, just my opinion, of course.

As for last year's Heat, Wade was playing at 60%, at best, that team didn't have a chance in hell of winning anything, even if Shaq poured in 30 and 20 per game.

The Suns even with a declined Shaq will match up better with teams like the Spurs and Lakers when Bynum is 100% healthy.

Shaq averaged 14 points a game in Miami without a true PG. Those numbers will go up to 17 to 18 points with Nash because he will get a lot of cheap baskets and not have to create all of his points on his own.

On the defensive end,his pick and roll D is not great, but he's a better 1 on 1 defender against guys like Duncan then Marion is because he's 7-0 340 pounds with a bigger body. Duncan does not dominate Shaq in the post like he dominates Marion who is only 6-7 like 210 pounds.

The Suns want to be able to play straight up D against Duncan without double and triple teaming him

you guys are drunk. there is only so much Nash can do. If Shaq posts up 6-8 ft away from the basket decides to foul offensively then Nash can do nothing to help him.

why would Shaq "decide to foul offensively"?..

as for guarding Duncan, Marion doesn't guard Duncan as often as many people are claiming..he guards Parker a lot more than he guards Duncan..I usually see Amare and Diaw guarding Timmy..

Shaq can't guard Duncan right now..he's better at it than Amare..but Duncan is a lot quicker than Shaq is, and Duncan would be able to take him off the dribble off the high post every time..but it's certainly an upgrade over Stoudemire, just because you have to respect his size..

definitely an upgrade again a big dude like Bynum though..if LA plays Phoenix, does anyone actually think Shaq won't be motivated to go up against Kobe and Bynum?..I wouldn't count Phoenix out if they played..

So your saying Shaq cant make a simple dunk. Cmon now he has not declined that bad to the point where he cant finish

The Heat played very well last season (without Wade) to end the season. Thats because they had shooters around Shaq in Posey and Kapono. Shaq averaged 17 points a game

This season the Heat did not have shooters and teams were able to collapse on Shaq starting from the 1st quarter. You cant do that now

Alleyoop dunks are nice in the regular season, but if your relying on that in the playoffs, you will lose against quality teams that play good halfcourt basketball and force you to do the same.

Shaq doesnt have to post up all the time because Nash will create the easy scoring opportunity for him. Shaq sets the screen and rolls. Nash bounce pass to Shaq for the Dunk

If you decide to key on that. Alleyoop to Amare for the dunk or kick out to Bell or Barbosa for the 3

Shaq averaged 14 points and shot 58% in Miami without a great PG

Now put him with Nash

With Shaq, how can you play small ball?!

Try to imagine how Shaq fit to Sun's run-run-run-shoot-run style system...That's ridiculous

why would you p&r with Shaq. he is slow and fat. It will take him 3 days from the time the pick is set to get to the basket.

p&r with Amare only.

I'm not sure how Phoenix fans feel about this, but I think it's an horrible trade. Marion was usually overlooked in Pho because of Nash and Amare, but I think he was more important to them than Stoudemire because of his all-around play. I feel bad for any fan who has to endure miserly ownership hurting their team even if I hate Nash and the Suns.

This is an absolutely awful deal for Phoenix. For a franchise that was so well built this is shocking to see it end in disaster.

I still have to understand this trade for the PHX side ...

Shaq in the run&gun/smallball system of Mike D'Antoni is like to put an elephant in a glass shop ...

Dunno what to think.

No personal offense intended but I remain shocked and appalled at how ignorant people truly are regarding how you actually operate a transition offense...

Doesn't it seem like Miami got more for Shaq then the Lakers did? I know Caron Butler is hell of a player now but the Lakers traded him for Kwame Brown. Lamar Odom has motivational issues and Brian Grant well is Brian Grant. The Heat got Shawn Marion and Banks for Shaq. Marion is a hell of a player and Banks is a capable backup. It's just weird because Shaq was in his prime so to speak when the Heat got him and it seems like the Heat got more for a declining Shaq now, weird.

Oh Please. This is still the same guy who offerredf Shaq the ridiculous contract and then paraded it as a coup of a signing. Then to top that he signed Smush parker and traded for Ricky Davis.

Riley got lucky someone was willing to play russian roulette.

Anyways retaining Marion is far from certain as his option next year is his own(opt out).

1) The Heat either let Marion go afetr the summer for nothing
2) Overpay a player that is a tertiary player at best
3) Sign and trade to a team willing to take on that contract.

Basically Suns chose the lesser fo 2 evils. Take Shaq for 2 years and roll the dice instead of waiting till the summer until Marion opted out leaving them at a bargaining disadvantage.
FWIW, Randy Pfund signed Parker. Riley was in Africa, IISC.

I hope PHX wins the title now so that Shaq can stick it to everybody and take 4 teams to the finals.

Run and gun small ball has not gotten the Suns to the NBA Finals and Steve Kerr the GM of the Suns sees that.

They can go with a run and gun lineup and halfcourt lineup now

C Shaq
PF Amare
SF Grant Hill
SG Bell
PG Nash

Run and Gun

C Amare
PF Grant Hill
SF Bell
SG Barbosa
PG Nash

OR

Shaq, Amare, Bell, Barbosa, Nash

So the Suns offered a similar package for Emeka Okafor. Glad we turned them down, although a J-Rich Wallace Marion 2-3-4 would be insane. Marion would probably opt out if he was traded here.
