What do you guys think about a follow up trade with the Bucks? We are pretty clealry shopping Villanueva (he listed the heat on his blog as a team he thinks are targeting him), and I can see a variety of scenarios working out:
Bucks trade: Charlie Villanueva, Jake Voshkul
Bucks receive: Udonis Haslem
I'm sure the Bucks would try to get Dorrel Wright in on that deal since he'd be a great fit at SF. I can also see us dealing you guys Mo Williams, since the combo of him and Redd just isn't working out---that would require you guys giving up some cap room though.
Bobby Simmons also has been tied to Miami trades before, and he would be a solid compliment to Marion. I bet the Bucsk are desperate to drop Dan Gadzuric as well, but it'd take a hell of a deal to convince your management to take on his contract.

Yea not in love with that either... although I wouldn't mind seeing a Haslem for Mo Williams type deal if we landed Beasley in the draft..
PG Mo Williams
SG Dwyane Wade
SF Shawn Marion
PF Michael Beasley
C Some hairy foreign guy
Now we're talkin.

This deff helps the heat a lot... now Riley can really do some rebuilding.. this team cant get any more athletic with Wade, Marion, Haslem and Beasley/Rose as a core. This team is going to be exciting to watch next year to say the least. Wel thats IF they resign Marion, wich i doubt.. but wel see.. it deff changed the whole situation.

I don't see why you should make any other moves considering you can have the modern equivalent of the 90's Bulls...Wade, Marion and Haslem is about as close as you can get to MJ, Pip and Ho...if you get Beasley, than you can move Haslem to find the perfect role players at center and point guard...if you don't get him, you can draft Batum, Greene or Gallinari to be the perfect 6th man ala Kukoc...
get a couple three point shooters at PG (Navarro & Duhon) to go along with Cook to fill the backcourt rotation...one of the three aforementioned rookies to play the Kukoc role if you don't get Beasley...a tough defensive minded bigman to offset Blount(Kurt Thomas) and a hustle bigman (Shavlik Randolph)...
Duhon/Navarro
Wade/Cook
Marion/Rookie
Haslem/Randolph
Thomas/Blount
that's a defensive minded team that can score and a legitimate contender in the east once Wade gets healthy...

Riley was talking in generics, but basically said players who don't work hard or give up when there is no hope really pisses him off. If you are paddling in a boat and some give up then you throw them overboard and stick with the guys who haven't quit.
I wonder if he was talking about Shaq?? I think so.
That was Tuesday morning after the Heat were waxed by Toronto. Ira Winderman described it as the low point in his 20 years of covering the NBA. Shaq did not play in that game so it is doubtful Riley was referring to him at all.

We might package Haslem with Blount/Smush for expirings. This would enable us to have max cap room and be far enough under the tax so that we would be able to sign a max player in FA (or two solid rotation guys) as well as use our MLE even if Marion doesn't opt out. Factor in our #1 pick and we look good.
Max PG (B. Davis, Arenas)/Banks
Wade/Cook
Marion/Wright
Beasley/LLE
MLE Center (K. Thomas)/Zo
Rose/Banks
Wade/Cook
Marion/Wright
MAX PF (Brand,J.O'Neal, Jamison)
MLE Center(K.Thomas)
Max PG (B. Davis, Arenas)/Banks
Wade/Cook
Marion/Wright
Beasley/LLE
MLE Center (K. Thomas)/Zo
Rose/Banks
Wade/Cook
Marion/Wright
MAX PF (Brand,J.O'Neal, Jamison)
MLE Center(K.Thomas)

If you are under the cap, you only get to choose between using the cap room, or having your exceptions. Only way we can sign a 'mle' guy and a 'max' guy is to be about $20 mill under the cap.

My caculations of our salary situation going forward...
Alright here goes...
Now most are in the know that Marion has $17,810,000 player option next season. If he uses it..
Miami's salary situaion as follows(my math could be off a little bit, didn't recheck)-
Dwyane Wade-$14,410,581
Mark Blount-$8,513,916
Udonis Haslem-$6,575,000
Marcus Banks-$4,260,000
Smush Parker-$2,430,000(player opt.)
Dorell Wright $2,910,104(cap hold)
Daequan Cook-$1,273,200
= 40,003,555
If Miami renounces Dorell Wright's 2.9 milliion dollar cap hold, Miami would then be at about 38 mil and some change....
Salary cap is projected is in between around 58-59 million next season...
We would be projected to be about 21 milion under the salary cap next season...
So basically, I'm sure Riley is going to see how Marion fits in the grand scheme of things, and if looks good? He'll be re-signed to a reasonable deal. If not, they'll part ways and look towards the market(as I anticipate)...
Either way, it's good money all around.
+ Lottery pick incomming..
Just a terrible year from a competitive standpoint this year, but there is some light busting through at the end of the tunnel. No doubt about it....
This trade is unreal..Unreal.

If Marion opts out he's a fool. Only 2 teams will be more than 10 mil under the cap come July and he's not about to take a paycut of several mill.
There's a thread detailing every teams probable summer 08 space in the CBA forum.
But, a round of applause for Riley and the FO for slithering out from under the 300 pound fat chick that is that multi-year 20 mil deal of Shaqs. He worked 1 ring out of it and somehow suckered rookie Steve Kerr.
Thanks from Lakers fans too who can now see any hope of the Suns having cap flexibility killed and losing their best asset in Marion to trade for a star caliber player in the off-season.
