His only downfall is his inability to catch passes, but Nash makes everyone better so I would think he would have been a natural and better fit than Shaq in Phoenix.

Come on man. Nash passes the ball faster than most any other point guard in the league. Stoudemire is underrated in terms of his handle. Brown wouldn't be expecting half of Nash's no-look passes. It would be awful. The only reason Kwame got traded was because the Grizzlies were salary dumping... it had absolutely nothing to do with talent. He is worth nothing more than his contract at this point.

one more time... due to the fact that there are so may Shaq threads...

Im telling all phoenix fans here.. i understand the concern, but mark my words... Shaq has a lot more left in the tank that most people think here. He cant carry a team anymore, thats obvious, but in Pho he has all the help he needs, and the best pg he can play with in Nash. Nash will find Shaq over and over in the spots where ha is still effective and dominant.

This move will put phoenix over the top. I can already see Nash with the Finals MVP and Phoenix winning the Championship at last.

The only concern is the helth, thats obvious, but Shaq latest injuries has been a result of Miami tanking, and maybe Riley saving Shaq cause he knew the deal was coming.

I guess well see what happens, but this is a blessing in disguise imo.

I will also like to say that i will be here a lot from now on, Shaq is obviously my favorite player, and i follow him wherever he goes... so i hope i can be accomodated without any problems! Thanks!!

I think this gives the suns a better chance of winning the title than if we kept marion. I love how everyone rips our style and calls for DAs head, and then when we make a move to get a true center, everyone bitches that he wont fit our style. Kurt Thomas wasn't fast and he worked out well here.

Great points. That goes for the media also. Most of them have gone out of their way to point out how we were never going to win a title without getting bigger. Now we get bigger and they are saying that we can't win with Shaq. Pathetic.

I don't think this is as bad of a move as people are making it out to be. Your going to call me crazy for saying this, but i'll do it anyway this is a good move for the Suns future. Marion was going to walk and that would leave the Suns with a huge gap to fill and no cap room to fill it. Shaq keeps the Suns in contention for another year or so. Where as if they let Marion walk this would more that likely be their last year to seriously contend.

Kerr made a win in the next few years type move, which is the Suns foreseable future considering Nash's age. Lets just hope it works out.

mkot wrote:Yep, it's about time we traded a productive, popular, long-time Sun for Hot Rod Williams again.

Hot Rod had a serious long term foot injury when we got him. As far as I know, Shaq has had no issues with his knees or feet (two biggest areas to kill a big's career). His hip seems to be healing fine and the Suns can check all that out in a physical. Plus, Shaq at his worst is better than Hot Rod's best seasons from a domination factor.

Without Shawn, it's hard to fathom this being the Suns team we have witnessed the past few years. And without Shawn, we definitely aren't in the hunt for the title.

Well, we know that we probably weren't going to win a title with Shawn (or we hadn't in the past 3 years). Why not shake it up and take a chance on a potential impact postseason player - something Shawn will never be.

We can't say we're in or out of the hunt until we've actually seen how this team plays with Shaq on the court. I suspect we're still out of the hunt, but with Shawn I could say it definitively.

I don't see this same team of Nash-Bell-Diaw-Marion-Amare-Hill-Barbs making it past LAL and SA in the grinding postseason. You have to be able to defend the pain, rebound and get high % baskets in the postseason. We had hoped Amare would be able to do that all on his own, but he's just not willing to be the "big body" post defender we need.

Plus, I have a feeling the days of being -20 on the offensive glass are over. As much as Marion had his positives, he was becoming much more comfortable hanging out at the 3-point line than hitting the offensive glass (he was at 3.1 ORPG in 05, this season he was 1.8). He also seemed to be more focused on getting the ball on the break than getting his elbows dirty under the hoop for defensive boards.

Shaq is gonna come in motivated and feeling like he has something to prove. A fresh start next to Nash and Amare? By the time the playoffs come he'll be in good shape as long as he stays healthy. A healthy/motivated Shaq,Nash.Amare>Kobe,Gasol,Bynum.

I'm just too stunned for any coherent words... NBA should just change it's logo to "WHERE WTF JUST HAPPENED HAPPENS".

I'd like to start out to say I AM NOT a fan of Shaq. To me he represents the epitome of winning the genetics lottery. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying he is a lumbering unskilled goon, the fact he did have some skills along with his gargatuan size will prob mark him as the most dominant centre in his prime. But considering his pass work ethic etc.. he never achieved his full potential given his physical gifts hence why I'm not a fan of the Diesel.

That aside if the deal gets confirmed by later on today what can we do as Suns fans but welcome this new addition to our team. It's spilled water under the table folks no sense crying about how we got robbed etc... I'd hope the board gives the big fella a chance to prove that he still got something left in his tank to get us that extra step we need to finally nail a ring.

As for Marion, I will miss the player but not the person if that makes any sense. Marion is just too professional for my taste. Sure he laid it all out night in night out but at the end of the day he still represents the egostical me first attitude of what's wrong with today's NBA. From the focus of the stupid all star game, to not being "appreciated" etc.. He just wasn't happy and I wish him all the best from now on.

I'm much more concerned with D'antoni and how he plans to adjust with Shaq here. It's no longer an issue of can he help (I know he can given the right plays and situation). But can D'antoni come out with a new masterplan to use him at its best. Considering D'antoni's amazing X and O's skill as well as his "adjustments" in game I'm skeptical...

Anyways here's hoping Shaq finds the inner motivation to stuff the doubters down (myself included).

I can't say how this trade will help both teams. Shaq is 35yrs old. He's isn't the same player he once was. With Shaq as a Sun, will PHX be as effective in a possible half court offense vs. their uptempo run and gun? Whose to say he'll make the big difference for the Suns. As for Marion, I think Kerr felt like he was going to lose him in the offseason so he decides to trade him off to avoid having to lose him for nothing. I doubt the Suns still up their chances to winning the title here.
