Team name change?

Post#1 » by Bamboozled » Wed Feb 6, 2008 8:53 pm

Has there ever been a discussion about changing the Jazz name to something more relative to Salt Lake City? What's the average Jazz fan's view on this? Without trying to sound too offensive, I really think it makes far more sense to hand the Jazz name back to New Orleans, who could then hand the "Hornets" name back to Charlotte.

I'm also open to the idea of giving the "Lakers" back to Minnesota as well.

Wow, am I sure glad somebody made a thread about this. Given where we are in the season, I can't think of a more relevent topic to discuss.

I think we should re-name the Jazz...

The Utah Knicks... or... the Salt Lake Superchargers.

Oh, and I would like to announce that this is my selection for the Best Thread of 2008.

There was some discussion that once the hornets went back to NO they asked utah for the name, but utah didn't want to give it up, it would be crap to change the name now with all the history behind it.

We would lose the name recognition that comes along with it. We may be a small market team but people still think Utah when they hear Jazz.

I remember hearing LHM say that it NO got the name "Jazz", Char got the name "Hornets" and Utah the new name. It would make Utah the expansion team. All Utah's records would be transfered to NO. Utah would be the new team.

It would be really dumb.

before the change of the color scheme and new uniforms the name the Snow Bears was being thrown around. I know its sounds Care Bearish...and thats probably why the didnt use it.

Yeah, its one of those unfortunate twists of history.

Its like the LA Lakers or the Memphis Grizzlies....doesn't make a lot of sense.

The smart thing to do would have been to change the name when the franchise was moved, like the Houston Oilers did when the moved to Tennessee and changed to the Titans. Too late now, though.

.....maybe NO shouldn't have a team, though. They already lost one before, and they have been horrible at supporting the Hornets pre-Katrina. What's funny is that if it weren't for Katrina, I'm pretty sure that the franchise would have already moved.

and then the name would be bobcats? or mountain lions? or cougars? (or some more local animal) and then we'de hafta change mascots cuz nobody wants a bear representing a cat-type team so we would hafta take denver's "rocky" and give our "bear" to memphis and well, thank goodness we just left things the way they were.

Well the name of the dinosaur that Toronto has on their logo is a Utah Raptor technically. A Velociraptor is a feathered turkey sized dino.

Trust me, if we were to change the name, the retards that come up with this kind of stuff in this state would choose a horrible one.

Yes, this state is HORRIBLE at choosing names. Fortunately LHM chose a historic and good name for the Bees.

I personally think that we should keep it. There's so much history with the name, and it would be like wiping it away by changing the name. It's never gonna happen.

Larry Miller might as well make money off the team name. How about the Utah Toyotas or Utah Nuclear Waste (after arena name) or Utah Sloans or Utah Stockton to Malones....no no best name ever...

UTAH Harpings (on everyone's uniorm we can have Matt's High School Football Picture)
