Shaq/Marion deal official

Post#1 » by SamBone » Thu Feb 7, 2008 12:13 am

So does this help or hurt PHX? Wade and Marion should be fun to watch, but I don't think that team can win. Shaq and Amare teamed up should be interesting to say the least. Will Shaq make it past half court?

Suns can still fast break with Shaq on the court. If they get shut down he makes it up and they probably have a mismatch going to him in the low post. Offense should continue to be no problem for the Suns.

What I don't understand is the defensive ramifications for the Suns. They're like 12th in the league right now, that's only going to drop with Shaq out there. Unless part of this trade was that the NBA gave Shaq 6 extra personal fouls per game?

I think Miami on the other hand just got WAY, WAY better. Not looking forward to seeing the Matrix 4 times a year, but at least we've already played the Heat 3 times!!

Flash
Davis
Wright
Matrix
DeAndre Jordan (draft pick)

That's a pretty athletic line up!!

Slam - you think they're re-signing Ricky Davis? And that they're playing Wade at point?

NO question Miami got better long-term, but I doubt that much changes this season. What they accomplished was escaping that ridiculous contract.

This is utterly indefensible for the Suns.
Well, they got the better player in the deal, right?
No? Well at least they improved their depth, right?
No? Well they got some prospects, right?
No? Well at least he fits the system, right?
No? Well at least it frees up cap space, right?
No? Well at least it gives them some roster flexibility, right?
No? Oh.

They need to give Banks some real playtime though. No reason to stick with the old guys.

Banks
Wade
Marion
Haslem
Blount

Let Marion and Haslem split time at PF/C and Wright Davis can come off the bench. They definitely improved. Like Walt said I'm glad we don't have to deal with Marion much more this year.

Davis was pretty good when Flash was out. Maybe they let him go and try out Cook at the 2? They have so many options now it's just not funny! A lot of it will depend on where and who they draft IMO. If they go with Rose, Beasley or Jordan. The rest will fall around that.

And yes, I think that Flash can play the point.

I think Davis is pretty decent, I'm just skeptical that they really want him on the roster. They're rebuilding, presumably, around Wade and maybe Marion; Davis doesn't strike me as a very complementary piece to those two.

Wade CAN play the point, in the sense that he's got passing and dribbling skills. But his turnover problem at the SG becomes a turnover PLAGUE at the point. I certainly wouldn't want to roll with him as my starting PG for the whole season.

Do the Suns care? I think they have thrown it all in...They want to win it this year...

Sure... but Marion's better than Shaq, and Shaq doesn't fit the system, AND Shaq doesn't provide what they seem to think he does (interior defense).

Agreed... but I think they had little chance anyway...Still not sure they have anymore of a chance because Shaq is injured.

IF Shaq can accept being A contributor as opposed to THE contributor this trade could be interesting for Phoenix. Although I still doubt they make it out of the west.

For Miami, I really don't think they are done. They've got Jason Williams $9 mil expiring as well as Davis at $6.8 (?) mil. This could get interesting.

Either way I doubt they keep Davis. Hes pretty much a curse in human form if you want to make the playoffs.

I think he is asking for a S&T with Wade.

Yea, I was waiting for someone to respond first b/c I think I probably overvalue Emeka relative to most other posters, but I think I'd only want to trade him for a top 5 pick if it meant we got Beasley.

Okafor was a number 2 pick and he's a known commodity. Beasley is the only "can't miss" prospect in this draft, he's the only one I'd be willing to trade Okafor for.
