Sam Cassell seems to be one of those few players with a say in what teams do with them. He has set his mind to go to the Celtics. The Clippers will probably make his wish come true, but they still want something in return. How about trading Cassell to a third team looking for some cap relief; then that team immediately buys him out, then Cassell signs with the Celtics. Everybody's happy.

If you guys can find a way to get another team involved so that we can a prospect or a late 1st rd pick then it's possible but a buyout is not happening. The top teams in the west are going to start getting desperate with the lakers and suns already making moves and there is a very good chance the clips get offered a late 1st or a good young player for Sam.

...I hate to crap in your cheerios my man, but Cassell is getting bought out and it has nothing to do with his trade value...
Cassell has leverage in where he's traded to because he's on the last year of his deal and no team is going to give up anything of value for a player that can hit the free agent market immediately...
...Cassell has apparently told his agent to "make it happen" with Boston, most likely because he knows Boston has a much, much better chance at winning a ring than does Denver...
...So based off of Cassell's preference, a deal with Denver isn't going to happen it seems...they aren't going to trade JR Smith and Najera to the Clips for a player who will bolt to Boston in 4 months...

The other issue is that the Nugs can't really part with Najera. I can't explain it but he is very important to what success they have.
The only way to trade for him is to give up a matching salary and a draft pick. I have thought it would be worth it for a team in the West but I don't know that is true anymore. If you run a Western conference power right now do you think Sam I Am addresses what has just happened with the competition? Not exactly.
Sam might get bought out but it will cost him more now than it will after the deadline. That said I was there tonight and while he can still do some things offensively he is flat defensively. He has lost a step and some quickness, I don't know that he can be some kind of Billups stopper he is being played up to be, I think Danny Ainge thinks Tony Allen is that guy.
It should be interesting to watch I can't sit here and say I like our pg situation but at the same time I can't say a 900 year old Sam Cassell makes everything better.

Sorry dude but it's not happening. You are not getting Cassell unless you work out some kind of trade that gives the clips a pick or a prospect.

...it makes me sad that you don't know anything about the business of basketball with over 1000 posts...
...as for you Sully, Cassell isn't being brought in here to be a "Billups stopper" he's coming here to give the Celtics a full 48 minutes of PG play on the offensive side of the ball....
Tony Allen will always be the back-court "stopper" but Sam is a ballhandler/scorer/playmaker for running the offense when Rondo is out of the game...that's the most important thing right now, getting a full game worth of back-court leadership for this team...
Cassell's offensive game has lost little potency, he would be such a huge aquisition I can't understate this enough...forget his defense, he never played any to begin with...

I see what you are saying BFB. He still is a master in the half court and that can be sloppy as hell with Rondo out of the game.
Does this seem like a sooner (now with Sam giving up more cash) or later (after the deadline) situation? He is proving me wrong with using the magic words as far as willing to give up money to get out of LAC.

My question is this. Is there a deadline for being bought out and signed by another team? I assume it is not the same day as the trade deadline.
Also what I can't figure out is that Sam Cassell clearly has some value left and with Donald Sterling finally calling out Elgin Baylor won't Baylor look like an idiot just buying him out and getting nothing in return?
Now I realize Elgin Baylor is an idiot and he has done dumper things before (see Candy man pick).
That is the part of this story I just don't understand.
