Wilt's best single game?

Post#1 » by Point forward » Thu Feb 7, 2008 10:29 am

If you could take one of Wilt's games for your favourite team, what would you choose?

(1) 100 pts, 25 rebs

(2) 78 pts, 43 rebs

(3) 22 pts, 25 rebs, 21 assists

(4) 24 pts, 32 rebs, 13 assists, 12 blks

(5) 34 pts, 55 rebs, 4 assists

Would you rather have the 100 point game, a quadruple double double, a double triple double, a quadruple double double, or a triple double double with 55 rebounds?

I personally take the double triple double. Simply unreal. :o

I think you put the term "triple" to often in these explanations

I'll go with (3)!

(3) 22 pts, 25 rebs, 21 assists looks pretty good but
(2) 78 and 43 is pretty nice.

I'll go with the double triple-double, though. #3.

#3, that line is just plain nuts. Well all of them are, but that one especially.

blocks, assists and rebounds doesn't necesarly win you a game

how did you find the stats in #4 about his blocks? I thought they didn't record blocks at Wilt's time. If they did, Wilt could have avg'ed a triple double, multiple years with his blocks?

How about the trip doub of 24 points, 29 rebounds, 10 blocked shots and four assists with an injured wrist to seal the deal on the then winningest single season in NBA history? A triple double to close out an NBA championship would work for me. :D And averaging a near-trip doub of 19.4 points on 60 percent shooting, 23.2 rebounds and 7.4 blocked shots for the series?
I remember your posts from the RPOY project, you consistently brought it. Please continue to do so, sir. This board needs guys like you to counteract ... worthless posters

I pick one, and its not close. Those 21 ast? only got 42 points. Still not equal to the 100 point production. Those extra rebounds, even assuming he stole them from the other team, at roughly 1 point per rebound, do not get to 100 points. Points are most often tracked for a reason. They are not a supplement to winning games. They are the actual measurement.

I read his bio "Wilt: Larger Than Life". It says that in Game 1 of the 1967 ECF vs the Celtics, Wilt was OFFICIALLY credited with the triple double but stats guys also noted they INOFFICIALLY counted 12 blocks.

Well, I see from where you are coming from, but Wilt did not play much D in that game. Phila scored 169, but NY (one of the worst teams back then) scored 147. He only started to play DPOY-level defense in 1966-67.

why didn't you include the games where Wilt unofficially had 25 blocks+?

Because I could not find the other stats  According to Harvey Pollack, the stats guys got up to 25, and after Wilt blocked several shots in the same sequence, they just gave it up. :nonono: Still a nice anecdote... :D

25+ blocks O_O!!!

Ira Newble got 15 points against the Celtics and that was considered a good game for him. What a beast Wilt was.
