Do you think that tonight is the night to be ripping Carney?
I mean, I am as frustrated with the guy as any of us are...but the guy had a great game tonight.
True. But I'm not the only one that's doing it tonight (see above).
Mob mentality.
Personally, I think he should together more games like this so that he could improve his value so he can be moved.

Yeah...but almost all of those posts were before the game tonight...right?
He's gotta do what he did tonight a LOT more before he catches a break around here...but he was probably one of the main reasons why we put that 17-1 run on those guys in the 4th quarter.
So - for tonight, at least - nice job, Rodney...
Let's see it again.

Watching RC last night I can't help but be reminded of Bruce Bowen. Bowen when he was in Philly was the whipping boy, much like RC, WG and Salmons after him.
His offense made RC look like Larry Bird and that's no exaggeration. His defense on the other hand was DPOY. If a coach can get in RC's ear, (perhaps LB) and have him mold his game after Bowen's he could really help this team. Don't try to create off the dribble and focus 100% on improving his 3pt shooting He showed a glimpse of that kind of D last night and I hope he gains some confidence and realizes that defense is his ticket to some playing time and really develops a DPOY mind set. He and LW played their best defense as Sixers during that run and I can't wait to see more of the same.
I also want to give some props to Evans. He got the feeding frenzy started with his energy

Don't worry, that builds character and you can never have too much character...

Not to sound like a broken record, but it's all about confidence with Carney. When he's indecisive he's ineffective. When he gets a chance to be in the flow of the game, he can be effective. He's just always on the outside watching the game develop. When he gets himself involved defensively, he gains confidence, and then he finds himself in the mix. Unlike Salmons, and Green he doesn't take shots that aren't his to take...he just misses too many open shots.
As for the Bruce Bowen comparisons, Bowen wasn't effective when he was here because we needed him to do more than defend and hit a jumper every now and again. He was handling the ball too much, and it didn't work out.

I don't know if Carney will ever develop a consistant swpot up jumper like Bowen did. Plenty of NBA players develop the three later in their careers, but Carney's shot is seriously broken.
I do like when carney gets withing 12 feet. He has a decent pull up, and often draws a second defender on his pull-up in the lane, creating O Board chances when he misses. If he never shot outside of 15 feet he might be a consistent net positive on the floor.
Maybe he will stretch his midrange game out a few more feet and be able to be consistant to 17 feet, but I don't see his jumper as being a good thing anytime soon.

i know he hasnt done much to deserve it prior to last nite, but id really like to see carney get into the starting lineup to get some real consistant minutes...he just seems like a guy (without looking at stats) that plays better when getting more than 18 minutes a game...
i think it would be beneficial even if he doesnt start to go to the "young boys" lineup for atleast 8 minutes a game of louwill/iggy/carney/thad/smith to see what theyve got...ive seen that lineup a few times this year and they have great energy nd seem to feed off eachother real well...
im not giving up on carney, in fact i think he is the typical case of a guy who just needs confidence and consistantcy...i think he can be a valuable bench/tempo guy in the future but id like to see him start a little bit here this season

Thought Carney played really well last night. The key was the amount of minutes he played I thought. He got 23 mins as WG's got reduced it seemed like. I would like us to start Carney also. We may have something with him if he were to get that opp to play. Not taking N E thing away from Green but I just don't think he's our guy. I don't think Carney is either but I value Carney's potential over Greens.

I actually think Carney is TOO confident at times. He takes way too many shots that he should Know arnt his shots. He heaves up ill advised threes and he tries to be smooth around the basket but ends up just chuckin up bricks. Iv never seen someone miss so many easy buckets in the paint.

And this comment tells it all ....
Carney is good at running the fast break ... period. If you take that away from him, he has no game. I would move him as soon as possible.

Nothing that 100k shots in the off-season can't fix. He as a pretty good 3-pt shooter in college and his mechanics aren't bad. I think his confidence is more broken than his shot.

Again I think it is more a lack of confidence and him thinking too much. Hopefully the other night is just the confidence builder he needs. If Mo tells him we want you to be our defensive stopper and not a scorer hopefully he will shoot less and only take wide open shots.

"[Cheeks] sat me down, talked to me, said, 'You're kind of dictating your game on your jumper. If it's not falling, you're not a guy out there playing defense, you're not [doing] anything,' '' Carney recalled. "I really took that to heart . . . I want to try and get a steal, a run-out to get going.
"Coming out of college, I was [the school's] leading three-point shooter; that's not what I have to do in order to get on this team and play. I have to drive the ball, be an athletic player, play great defense and stay away from the three-point shot. I think I'm a better player now."
We need to stay patient with this kid. He has talent. He just needs to learn to do the little things in order to stay on the floor.
