I love the bench production
Hopefully Doc keeps playing the bench a lot. I like what I've been seeing lately. Doing this could only help in the long term. I don't care what our record is as long as we get one of the top 3 spots in the seeding.

Which we are really a lock for. Cleveland has 20 losses and Orlando has 19 losses; it's highly unlikely either one catches us...let alone both.cfan79 wrote:I don't care what our record is as long as we get one of the top 3 spots in the seeding.
I agree very much about the bench/role players. They are really shutting up the "Celtics have no bench and are 3 deep" statement that we heard so often from other teams fans.
Tony Allen is playing awesome, Powe is establishing himself as a solid rotation player, Posey is Posey and Rondo (not bench, but he also took a lot of heat from opposing teams fans) is tearing it up lately. Baby plays well when he gets the minutes and Eddie House is one of the best pure shooters in the NBA. If we can get Cassell like Sam seems to believe can happen, our bench will be very good and is already earning the label of "good".

I think the rise of the bench is an undereported story here. It is interesting that the bench has risen as our winning % has gone down.
Hopefully Doc views that as resting the Big 3 for the title run in the Spring. Before it was one person from the bench stepping up a game. Now it is 2 and even 3 guys a game.
The bench presence gives me the most hope heading to the Playoffs.

Yep, we could possibly have a great bench with Cassell.
Is it weird that I sometimes like watching the deep bench guys play more then the big 3?

You are likely still conditioned from the development years. I find myself thinking along similar lines when we have stretched a sizable lead. I think, too, that is just part of being a sports fan. Everyone loves the back-up QB/Goalie, the promise of the never-seen 12th man and the 25th guy on the roster.
I am just happy that there is upside at the end of the bench. Even during our time of moderate success (2001-04), I found myself cursing at the likes of Grant Long, Bimbo Coles, Mark Bryant and Walter McCarty seeing minutes but openly cheered for JR Bremer, Kedrick Brown and Brandon Hunter.

You are probably right. I've been a fan of the team since Bird retired and its been mostly bad years.
