Unnecessary Technical Fouls Being Called?
Are the referees too soft nowadays? It seems like they don't let players react anymore and that the refs get their feelings hurt all the time.
Example:
I was watching a Warriors game and a ref called a foul on Mickael Pietrus. Pietrus was shocked that he got called for a foul, he looked at the replay on the jumbotron of the Oracle Arena and he pointed at it in shock. The ref called a technical foul on Pietrus for doing that.
Reggie Miller was broadcasting and he said the ref called a T because when Pietrus points at the jumbotron, he's making the crowd get loud. So basically when the ref called a T he meant, "Hey, don't point at the Jumbotron. I don't want the fans getting into it by booing me."
Is that a good reason to call a foul though. Don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining.. I can live with that call it's just that it seemed to have some awkward logic behind it.

I don't know if that's a good enough reason to call a technical. It could go as showing up an official somehow. Jackson needs to be careful though, he looks like he is about to pick up a 2nd technical. The Warriors need him if they want to win against CHI.

That's a stupid T.
It is undermining the referees authority by being ostentatious.
In football, you get shown the yellow card if you sarcastically clap your hands after the ref made the call against you.

I watched that play. the refs called alot of stupid fouls on the warriors cause they were pissed. The pietrus foul for instance wasnt a foul by pietrus. Joe smith went up for the ball, Tyrus came from the baseline and grabbed the ball as well and his momentum dragged them both down.
SO whats the difference between saying ref I didnt do it and pointing to the jumbotron. If you as a ref didnt make a bad call the crowd won't react in a bad way. Don't get mad because theres proof you might have made a bad decision. In the second half alot of fouls were called that took the warriors out of the game.

I think the league calls technicals really inappropriately. That was not a technical on Pietrus. It just wasn't. Call technicals when Kobe stays on offense complaining about a call. When you ostentatiously, but reasonably complain during a dead ball, I could care less. But with a fastbreak going the other way, it shouldn't even have to be SAID that the player needs to hustle back. Its pathetic sportsmanship, and its allowed in current rules.

Here's another one. Kobe talking to some fan while handing the ball over to the ref. The ball is pushed into the ref's chest a little bit and he gets the T.

Honestly that whole sequence might have been the turning point in that game. The Warriors were going to get the ball back with the lead, then all of a sudden the Bulls got three unwarranted free-throws and had the lead. i don't think they lost the lead after that point as the Warriors started going crazy thinking they were getting hosed by the refs.
Sometimes Stephen Jackson and Baron need to cool it and just give the ball to Monta.

Ronnie Brewer got called for a BS technical foul the other day during the New Orleans game. Paul fouled Brewer and as he was coming down on him Brewer had his arm out to brace himself...get's a quck T called on him. I read something about it getting rescinded, but I'm not sure if it actually ever happened.

Guys I never mentioned Stephen Jackson in my first post, I don't know why people here keep pointing out that Jackson's technical was deserved. I'm pretty sure Jackson DID deserve that technical, but i'm not complaining about it... i'm just talking about the Pietrus technical.
I JUST DON'T GET WHY Mickael Pietrus got that technical. He was pointing at the Jumbotron, OK what's wrong with that?
What's the point of even showing replays on jumbotrons if the players can't even point at it to show the fans? Is it illegal to tell fans to look at the replay that was obviously there to be seen in the first place?
That's why in my first post, I asked if you guys think that refs are too soft nowadays. It's as if they're not men, they're like little kids who get butthurt if they feel like anyone is against them. Joey Crawford gave Tim Duncan a technical because he laughed at him. Ok, people get laughed at all the time, why call a technical?
And if the crowd is AGAINST a call of yours, why would you call a technical on a player because they got the crowd pumped up? That's a part of the game, if you're a ref you have to be immune to that type of atmosphere... NO ONE will expect all of your calls to be RIGHT, so don't get all butthurt if you realize that the crowd doesn't like the call you made.

The refs always act like soft b*tches, handing out technicals whenever they feel offended. If a controversial call was made (or not made), wouldn't you expect a player to get emotional and complain? They're not robots, they will get upset and angry when they don't get the calls that should have been made. People say that they get techs for undermining the refs. Yea, so? It's not like refs always make the right call.
I think the refs need to stop acting like soft girls and let players show their emotion. Of course there's a limit, but there's also something called being reasonable.
