Nellie on KNBR 2/7

Post#1 » by Twinkie defense » Fri Feb 8, 2008 12:56 am

On Gasol: The Warriors talked with Memphis about getting Gasol. And Nellie thinks the Suns getting Shaq is a bigger bang for them than the Lakers getting Gasol.

On B-Wright, and this is a direct quote: "There's no complaints at all with that kid, we really like him a lot." He also says you can stick them (referring to the rooks generally) in a few minutes here and there, but if you play them (more) "we're going to get beat." Give 'em a year, Nellie says.

On Webber's minutes: Nellie seemed to back off a little bit on his prior "25-30 mpg" comment, qualified now with "after he gets in shape, in a big game or a playoff game, depending on how he feels."

Tom asks if Nellie still runs the same plays as when he played, Nellie says "There are basically 10 plays in the NBA, and you run five of them, another team runs the other five."

On forcing teams to make adjustments: Nellie says they know how they play the best, and that's the way they're going to play, because that gives them the best chance of winning games.

"Give them a year, then maybe we can play them a LITTLE bit, we'll see."

I'm certain playing MBENGA, Nice Story, Nice Story2 and The French Trainwreck > POB, BW and Belinelli saved us from going 10-36

Old Dumb Bastard also completely screwed up the trade exception rules

Trouble in paradise? Check out Nellie's quote on Baron down near the bottom of the page..3rd negative one this week....

Also what a f"d up answer Don gave on the Monta shots question.

The Warriors need to make a trade to assure themselves of being competitive in the West. I'm not saying that because of the Bull loss, which was likely the way the team has played this season.

The problem now is the timing of a trade and if the Warriors have the balls to make a move. I was hoping something would have been done leading up to the long layoff, besides CWebb. It would have been a good time to bring in new additions and have a real mini camp.

CWebb was exactly what I thought he would bring. He isn't in shape, but still has the ability to contribute for a few minutes a game. There was no way the guy was going to get 30 minutes in his first game and I doubt he will ever play 30 minutes this season. I hope he can be productive playing 15 or so minutes a night...if he still can.

Baron deserved the criticism, and Nellie is probably trying to make sure his "all-star snub" pouting ends as quickly as possible. That is probably a good thing, but it doesn't mean anything has fundamentally changed in Baron, Nellie or either's relationship to the team. That's a very early call to throw down after a pretty predictable pouting episode.

I prefer to look to the upside that maybe once we get past the point of no return (trade deadline) he's actually going to start coaching these guys again?

You're right, the response to the Monta question was just goofy. I'll assume he's strill trying to coach the cap with Monta. Cohan's bookeepers looming large in the background with each nationally televised game: feature Pete, let Baron and Jack carry the whole load, underuse Dre . . .

If Nellie ever appropriately gets on after Jack for a crappy performance and ridiculously embarassing behavior, I'll slap my mama.

I think Nellie calls out Jack, but not in public like he does others. Nellie uses the media to get across his points to certain players, but I think he understands how sensitive Jack is and is being careful with him.

I have seen Nellie call him to the side during games to express his displeasure in him. I think Nellie prefers to spank Jack in private.

I really don't care all that much about what he does in or out of the media. What I really want is for him to IMMEDIATELY get Jack off the floor when he's that unprofessional and embarassing. If the refs are jobbing us, it's the coaches job to take the tech for the team. One of the teams 4 best players (and a captain) has a responsibility to rise above and lead the team in fighting through the adversity. Jack's responses to are unacceptable and detremental to the team.

I really don't buy the "he needs his edge to play his game" excuse anymore either. His "edge" takes him out of focus and hurts the team. I can not recall once a game where Jack threw tantrums and it resulted in better play from him or anyone else. His lack of dignity and self control is his biggest weakness, it adds nothing to his strenghts.

Time to grow up crybaby. No one wants to watch that BS anymore.

I agree with you that Jack is given way too much rope to hang himself with. I thought Jack was doing a pretty good job this season of controlling himself, but last night goes back to some pretty dark places we saw from him last season. I'm hoping he hasn't forgotten to take his meds.

Nellie should have yanked him and sat him for awhile. Nellie looked rusty last night coaching and I'm not sure why that was...age, too much scotch?

I had that thought immediately last night: "well . . . he hasn't done this in a while so . . ." But then I snapped out of it when the rest of the team followed him down the drain. I just don't want to watch any of that crap. The fact that he's allowed to get away with it and stay on the floor just embarasses me as a fan. I was really dissapointed that the refs didn't give him the second T when he was hopping up and down in the air like a 6 year old.

Getting him off the floor would have been the best thing to happen to us all night.

(other than Monta's 11-12)

The Warriors mini camp should have revolved around getting Monta the ball. Monta should have shot over twenty times last night.

I hope we don't see anymore of that crap from Jack.

Horrible loss, but it's funny to see all the negativity rear it's head... didn't see this after the couple nice wins before the "mini camp."

On Monta... very good player, to be sure. But I'm starting to think some more should be put on him. How can such a dominant player become invisible for stretches? He needs to assert himself more, not wait for someone else to get him more involved.
