FL Today: NO ROOM FOR REDICK

Post#1 » by Hotshot Hower » Fri Feb 8, 2008 10:53 am

ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic had surged ahead of the New Jersey Nets by 20 points, a mere 4 minutes were left and the only remaining drama was what was being cooked up by the Amway Arena crowd.

"We want J.J.! We want J.J.!" the fans chanted, clearly referring to reserve guard J.J. Redick, who was well on his way to not playing in a seventh consecutive game.

Magic teammate Keith Bogans was pumping his fist to the beat of the chants, and when injured center Tony Battie started elbowing Redick in the ribs, he at least played along and cracked a smile.

I always said he was the wrong pick for us, why drafting a player, that won't be use?. Never understood that. Another lottery pick wasted. Our trademark as a team, I guess.

half of the NBA cant play defense and those players all get time.... really upsets me that JJ cant even get 10 mins a game.. his shot is unbelievable.

Diplomat, the thing is, as a pro it hasn't been unbeleivable. He's had his moments but he's not Ray Allen by any stretch, then again he doesn't get enough floor time to really get hot. I'd like to see the guy get some minutes, don't get me wrong. I see no reason why we can't split up Bogans minutes with him...not Evans though, that can go with the best of em energy wise.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I find it sort of ironic that the general consensus with regard to Jameer and the backcourt situation is don't mess with it because we're winning, yet a lot of us are up in arms demanding that JJ play. Isn't that a little contradictory?

From SVG:

What that does is knock everything out of whack. It's like there's this perception that every No. 11 pick should be playing 25 minutes a game on a good team in their second year in the league. That's not the history of this league. But people want to see J.J. play and I understand that.

Stat people, is it true that 11th picks on a good team don't usually get much playing time in their second year? I've wondered whether JJ's problem is simply that this team is too good to use inexperienced players. Most lottery picks play on lottery teams.

I also have to wonder if some of why JJ isn't being played is just the coach throwing his weight around because JJ is asking for a trade and the fans are demanding JJ. Head coaches don't like being told what to do.

The thing that bothers me the most about JJ/Fran is that our front office seems to be holding on to these players with no plan of action. I really hope that we get something out of both of these players whether it be a trade or playing time.

everytime a new JJ article comes out does it need a new thread. Can we just have a JJ thread?

Magic FO please just trade him so this bs will stop

Those chants remind me of the mid-90's and the "We Want Brooks" chants for Brooks Thompson.

Still, I know J.J. can play and while I do not want him to be traded, at some point a guy needs to move on.

I do expect the Magic to make a deal at the deadline involving at least one player so we will see what happens.

Just an added comment I found interesting. JJ in warmups is impressive. Remember at Duke he dunked 2 times, 1 of which looked like a layup and he cramped up on the way up. Now he throws Windmills and off the glass with ease. Could JJ get some action in the Slam Dunk Contest in a few years? Fans would love it. He's sure to win, not just short, but white and unathletic, that's a combo even Jordan can admire. JJ can get 13 feet easy!
