is kerr the new Ainge?

can't help but notice that Kerr's first two trades don't seem to be moving the team in any particular direction. (the trades seem to go in opposite directions)

even if shaq helps them get closer to the chapionship, they really should have gotten more for Matrix.

also sending 2 1st rounders and kirk thomas away for nothing does nothing but save a few $$$, adding shaq just put you over the cap for next year and you lost 2 1st round picks too boot.

not impressed; at this rate they will look like the knicks in a few years time. (ok, that's a joke)

I like the deal it's been proven you don't get much for good players in the NBA. So the fact they got Shaq for a player who seems to have been a major distraction is a good thing. I think Shaq will play really well with Amare, Nash, Hill and Barbosa. There 1st rounders don't mean much and wouldn't really contribute.

it is unfair to call Marion a distraction. Phx has treated him like a ballboy. He is a great player that kept his mouth shut and then decided he had enough.

he will make the heat a much better team

This is the wrong year to compare him to Ainge since the Celts have the best record in the NBA.

When do the Suns have to give up those first rounders? Initially I believed they would be meaningless but I question how great the Suns are going to be in 2 years when Shaq is 38 and Nash is 36. If one of those picks is for the 2010 draft, I think it has a shot to be a decent pick.

agreed on both points, i should have said a different GM that was a former player, though Ainge was bad for many years

Yeah, you should have said Isiah.

Isiah likes to acquire big men with horrible contracts that can't play defense. Zach,Curry,James etc.,,, now he has competition from Steve Kerr.

Maybe Isiah will feel cheated and respond by trading for Ben Wallace this week.

I think that deal will help out the suns big time. There will be nobody in the West that will be able to contain a motivated Shaq.

In the end if a championship is won, its a great deal. Put them in the front runners now.

But only time can tell on when you can judge ANY trade.

Maybe "Ainge" knew when he traded away Kirk and the two 1st rounders that he was going to make a trade to bring in a big money veteran to replace Marion who was looking to opt out of his $17 million and leave them with nothing.

Wait to see how this plays out first. Shaq just has to be an inside presence out there, and isn't even a top 3 option on offense. For 1-2 years, this may be great for the Suns...year 3 would concern me more. Remember, there has been Banks talks for a long time, and Marion has wanted out as well. They got Shaq for two guys they were probably going to move anyway...Nash is 34-35 years old, so they don't have a window to bring in youth for those players. Of the veteran players available, was there anyone better??

imo phoenix prooved that they have a very bad management.they could have landed gasol for kurt thomas+first round picks and atlanta's pick and still have marion...

But Gasol doesn't address their need...they are trying to modify the team by having a presence in the middle. Gasol is a perfect fit in LA, but I don't think it's as good of a match for the Suns. Amare/Shaq could be very nice for the remainder of this season and next.

This deals definitely for the immediate future. Year 3 is a concern but the Suns are going to have a massive expiring contract to build around in Shaq's.

Expiring contracts are better than the actual player now. Look at Theo Ratliff.
Two years from being two years away.

I would take my chances on the Lakers picks instead of the Suns picks. If the Suns didn't already have a PF I could see that. But they want a strong pressence in the middle not a weak one.
