The Eddie Johnson blog on Hoopshype has a very good article on the potential impact of Shaq on the Suns.

The Heat are most likely going to have a top 5 pick to add to Wade/Marion, so I think that right there is a pretty formidable trio, although I don't believe Marion will be as succesful playing with the Heat given the lack of athletes/transition game they employ.

Suns had nothing to lose. They had Marion for one more year at the most (he likely would have opted out if they didn't trade him), and they will know get an old but likely newly re-motivated Shaq. Shaq is their third best player, that's pretty good.

Lots of double teams in the post leaving open 3's for Phoenix in the playoffs.

I don't know if Marion's gonna be around after this year.

Heat will re-sign him. They have the room and they are not going to give up Shaq just for cap space.

So what? That still doesn't mean they are just going to give him away. If he was traded to an undesirable location, I could see Marion opting out, but not playing in Miami with a top 5 NBA player on a team that can give him the money he is looking for.

No way does Marion leave $17M on the table.

He will not get close to that per year when he resigns his new deal.

I doubt he declines his player option, my point is that when he does resign Miami will be the ones resiging him. I don't believe they moved Shaq for the idea of a one and a half year rental of Matrix. I believe both parties will be interested in him resigning there.

He thinks he can. That's why he was demanding a 20 million dollar extension from Phoenix.
