Unfortunately, without those 2 guys I don't think we can prove him wrong. But I sure as hell hope we do!

Sheed's smack doesn't really bother me. He has a respect for the game which is important. He's all about winning--which is incredibly important. He'll trash talk, but he's not one of those clowns that will try to hurt anyone on purpose or anything. He whines to the officials and half the time I want him to get T'd up for his bitching when facing him, but in general he's fine.

Tonight I hope they run Martell off 3 screens all night long. Hell they need to do that every game, that man is amazing running off that screen. Sadly I don't see us running that.

it may be difficult because Joel is the best at setting screens and I'm not sure how long Joel can be effective trying to guard Rasheed or McDeyes all the way out to the arc.

McDyess doesn't good range outside of 15 feet and LMA is a much better defensive match up against Sheed. If ever there was a tonight where it would make sense for Joel to log some serious time tonight is it. We need someone to keep their slashers honest. We could also use him when Maxiell comes in off the bench, otherwise he will feast on Frye and Outlaw.

I saw detroit play miami and orlando.

in both games McDeyess went out to the 3 pt line a bunch and forced shaq and dwight to play a lot further from the basket then they wanted.

The pistons may do the same in this game if joel is causing problems.

And I think the pistons are veteran enough to really make portland pay if the blazers play a lot of zone.

Interesting strategy, but why would Shaq and Dwight go out there, when McDyess is not a 3 pt threat? According to his stat line, it looks like he's never attempted a 3 pointer in his life.

The only reason I can see McDyess going out to 3 pt line is the same reason why we send Joel out there; the pick and roll.

I think if they want to play anyone on the perimeter it would be Sheed, just my opinion though. At that point Aldridge should be able to go out on the perimeter to guard him. Otherwise I could see Portland employing some zone, although you want to be careful with Billups, Rip, Sheed and Prince.

Except for Roy, Nate tends to take players out right when they've hit a few shots in a row.....or doesn't run plays for them at all. As for Jack's mistakes, those keep happening and Nate has rewarded him with a starting spot again. Jack is now the league leader in TO's off the bench....well, not anymore, now he's a starter.

So Sergio last year was 3rd in the entire league in Asst/48 mins and one of the league leaders in Asst/TO ratio but Jack is #1 in TO's off the bench so he is made the starter.

I'd be lying if I said I got it....

+1

That is so dead on its not even funny.
I posted the other day about double
standards Nate has for Jack.. .im glad
im not the only one whos sees this.. .

As per Barrett's updated Blog: Roy is out due to a death in the family.

he's not a 3 point threat, but he is pretty good at knocking down 18 footers like LMA. Shaq and Dwight had to honor that enough to come out from the paint. Billups and Prince took advantage of that with drives. Maxiel did as well as I recall.

I'm not saying joel can't be effective in this game, just that detroit may force him further out on the floor where he's less of a factor.

Even if Joel (or anyone) is forced outside to defend
he is allowed to be next to but not in the paint.. .

So altho spreading defenders out of the painted
area does work & is a good plan, the defender
can still be within range, but sometimes thats
not good enough as there are a ton of quick
players in the NBA & they only need a step.

What the key thing here is that offensive
player that is pulling the defender out, if
that offensive player can hit the 3 ball
then its a double edge sword and that
defender cant be by the painted area.
THAT is what gets the job done.. .

So if McDyess wants to sit by the 3pt line
let him. Joel can be close enough to the
paint. Now, if they put Rasheed guarding
Joel then Joel will have to be further out.

Edit: Wiz beat me to it pretty much I just noticed, lol.
