Are Jazz is O-Neil talks?

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Fri Feb 8, 2008 7:05 pm

Pacers are shopping Jermane O'Neil to several teams. Do you think Jazz would have any interest in him? Hard to make a trade when u have won so many games in a row. I probably think Jazz should stand pat but tempting to get a good defensive center.

Trade that works under the Cap: Memo, Harpring & Almond for O'Neil

Pacers would do it. Jazz would have done it in December in a second, but now not likely.

Um, No. Jermaine's knees are shot, i give this a -15% chance they trade for him unless its for almost nothing.

Hope not. O'Neal seems like a shell of his formal self.

Meh. JO averages 15.3ppg 7.3rpg and 2.2bpg. Seriously, besides his blocks, there's nothing very tempting about him anymore. He shoots under 45% from the field now. He still manages to turn the ball at 2.55, which is pretty high for 31.3mpg, and considering he's not the first option on his team anymore, and he's not the point guard either.

Also, trading Harpring + Almond on top of trading Memo who's already playing equally as well, if not better?

Between January and February Memo has averaged:
34.5mpg 15.3ppg 7.7rpg 1.8apg 1spg .7bpg and shooting well overall:.464 .434 .833

Not bad for a player sharing the 3rd fiddle spot.

O'Neal isn't near the player he once was. I'd rather stick with Memo, Harp, and Mo. I don't think the Jazz need to tinker witht he roster, we're on a roll right now and everyone seems to be happy. Why mess with a good thing?

Well, citing his offensive stats (which are low due to injury) is a bit of a red herring, because we wouldn't be getting him for his offence. He is still an elite post defender, which would come in handy against the Gasols and Shaqs and Duncans of the West.

That said, he does come with risks, and I don't know that we're really in the running for him anyway.

Well with the way NBA trades have been lately we might as well try. Who knows, maybe we could get him for Collins and a couple second round picks.

I'd certainly take him. I think he's injured, not shot. He'll recover.

The biggest problem with him isn't his knees, it's his contract. While I'd be more than willing to bring him here, I doubt very much that Larry Miller would like to try to fit him under the luxury tax.

And yeah, I don't think his value is that high. Certanly not more than Marion's value, which only netted a guy who IS shot. We've seen a lot of stars traded for salary relief lately, and I don't think O'Neal will be any different. I think the fact that we have little to offer in the salary relief catagory means that we're not in the running for O'Neal.

I think we are doing fine, the defense seems to have kicked up a couple notches.
I like our chances, I think this squad has as good or better chance than the finals squads did.

The problem with making a trade that really jolts our roster, with somebody like O'Neal coming for multiple pieces, at this point in the season, is that we risk killing the current momentum/chemistry of our current squad. I don't like the deal anway....but the most important thing for this team currently is trying to wrap up homecourt advantage in the playoffs....I don't think an adjustment period is what we need right now.

If we can find a decent backup PG or C in another Kyle Korver type deal...amazing...but no major shakeups at this point for me. I think we are going to the finals if homecourt happens....if we have to win on on another team's home court(San An especially)....I'm not that confident.

Interesting. Who in the world is Dallas going to give away that interests the Pacers? Josh Howard? Devin Harris? I honestly don't see anything you guys should want from them outside of those two....and Harris doesn't excite me as a prospect too much. All of their big contracts are fairly long and have been given to marginal talents. You guys going to end up with like Dampier, Stackhouse, and picks? That would suck.

What about AK, Flatline, and Collins for J. O'Neal and Andre Owens.

PG: Williams/Price/Owens
SG: Brewer/Miles/Almond
SF: Harpring/Korver
PF: Boozer/Milsap
C: O'Neal/Okur/Fesenko

I like the balance there. Besides there is no way Indy wants Okur when they already have Murphy.

Getting Jermaine, just like getting Shaquille but without the excitement or economic boost.

Oneal would be nice, but not at the risk of losing a key player. So obviously we cant do it.
