Clippers Seeking First Rounder For Sammy

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Fri Feb 8, 2008 11:40 pm

The Clippers are optimistic that if they do trade Cassell, they will get a first-round draft pick in return.

I hope we're looking past Sam Cassell at this point for many different reasons. He could be very beneficial to us, but I don't feel he can run like we need him to, and by all means it's not like we're going to give up a first round pick for him (not that we can). I wonder how many contenders would be willing to do so?

Not worth a first round pick. And it would have to be our 2010 one so they probably aren't interested. I think Boston might jump on this deal.

Boston owes multiple 1st rounders to Minny.

The only way they would get a first rounder is if they took on a horrible contract. sam isn't good enough for the Clippers to get expirings+first for him.

Boston only owes Minnesota one #1 because one of the picks traded in the KG deal was a future Minnesota pick.

It is a 2009 pick, so Boston cannot trade its 2008 pick.

Agreed that the only way the Clippers get a #1 is if they take a bad contract for Sammy.

Picks at the end of the first round aren't that valuable. I could see something like a top 25 protected first rounder or something like that.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Sam rental if it came as part of gaining Corey Maggette. While Sam doesn't fit our personnel or particularly play good D, he would help in the 4th when we need someone to hit a shot. I still think he could teach the team a lot about winning, but I would be a little worried that his heart isn't in it. If he's got his heart set on joining Boston, it might be an issue.

Right, if traded or cut, he certainly wants a title, and ATL is not the right place.
