LA Lakers vs Houston Rockets - 7 Game Series

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Sat Feb 9, 2008 5:31 am

I think these two teams could possibly meet in the first round (#2 and #7 seed or something of that effect) and I would love to see this matchup right off the bat to start the playoffs.

Los Angeles Lakers

PG: Fisher/Farmar
SG: Kobe/Sasha
SF: Odom/Ariza/Walton
PF: Gasol/Turiaf/Vlad
C: Bynum/Mihm/Mbenga

VS

Houston Rockets

PG: Rafer/James/Brooks
SG: T-mac/Head/Novak
SF: Battier/Wells/Landry
PF: Scola/Hayes
C: Yao/Deke

Who would win in 7?

Lakers. The Rockets don't have any good guards. All of their guards are inconsistent shooters.

They need to surround Yao with better shooters.

Lakers in 4 or 5.

Depends on the health status of Bynum... but that Gasol / Odom / Bynum pairing is going to put up anywhere from 35-45 points and 20-25 rebounds on a given night... more than negating Yao on the inside.

Too many weapons on the Laker side of things... this would have gone 7 before the Gasol trade.

I thought TMac was an SF? Either way, he's been sucking it pretty bad also.

Yep, that 25/7/6 on 46% he's been putting up since he came back from the injury (starting) is just horrible. He had an off game last night because he played with the flu.

It's ok, you're just displaying your own ignorance. Mcgrady's numbers have been as good as they've ever been when he's been healthy this season. He's nearing 100% now, and should be even better (the form he was in to start this season) once the all-star break has passed.

The only reason Mcgrady's numbers are off this season are the numerous games he left early, and the stretch of games he tried to play injured. Of course, homers such as yourself wouldn't bother actually watching him play - you just look at the box scores.

*edit* I vote for the Rockets in 6. They have been the best team in the league '08. They've lost 4 games, and for all 4 of them Yao or Mcgrady have been out. Looking at their schedule for the next month the Rockets could possibly go undefeated through March. The only team they are playing that's dangerous in that stretch is New Orleans.

The addition of Gasol tilts the balance firmly in the LA Lakers' favour.

Before the trade, they were overachieving and not that good IMO.

Now, they look rather scary

Lakers primarily because of Pau Gasol. Yao can at least match Bynum's production if not significantly outplay him, which I would expect. He cannot make up for Gasol's impact nor are the Rockets capable of handling him with any of their PFs. And no matter how good you think Tmac will be, Kobe will be just as good/better. So absolute best case they cancel each other out (IMO it's not close right now because Tmac is declining physically, earlier than he should, due to unfortunate injuries). No reason to believe he'll be 100% healthy in the playoffs this year.

Having a poll with anything that has to do with either the raptors or lakers is dumb, unless you have them pitted against each other. Their fan bases just outnumber the others too much for it to be a legit poll.
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

Lakers easily. Watching the Rockets play, I believe that they would be better off with someone such as Richard Hamilton than Tmac. Hamilton is a great catch and shoot player, doesn't take dumb shots, is really good at cutting, and plays good defense. I've been a really big supporter of Tmac, but he just doesn't have it anymore. His first season as a Rocket was his best and his actual prime was like 7 years ago.

actually they do have answers for all those players. first of all bynum would get destroyed by yao on offense and defense. and yao owns him everytime they play. odom just sucks. battier is a decent player to guard kobe. and the rockets got a decent pf rotation to at least guard gasol.

Gasol will flop his way through those mediocre PFs.

I see Lakers in 5 or 6, even though the team's fans made me pretty much hate the team.
