He does sound more like joking than being serious.

I feel sorry for Marc Gasol. He's not getting that much attention from this trade when it involves his very own brother. Marc Gasol could be just as good if not better than his brother in 2 years from now once he gets into the league.

Lakers were able to do this trade because their owner was willing to pay the luxury tax. The Grizzlies' GM came out and said they tried to do a deal with Chicago but Chicago's owner wasn't willing to pay the luxury tax.
Buss stepped up. Reinsdorf worried more about his bottom line than trying to win basketball games.

No he won't.
He will be a backup center at most.
I have seen him play in europe many times.

I dont think its a question of luxery tax here

im sure there are other teams out there couldve given the same deal as the lakers to the grizz, and the grizz wouldnt trade. There are teams out there who might have high draft picks and expiring contracts that couldve made a deal.

Yeah, it looks like they purposely got the worst deal talent-wise... but they are bigs boys you let them do what they want to do. There have been many players that have been bought straight up for cash before. Lakers are just lucky and they should be happy. I do think Pops is joking though, because I doubt that he actually supports the idea of a "trade committee"

People gotta stop bringing up conspiracies like Jerry West helping the Lakers or McHale helping the Celtics. Lakers stepped up and Memphis wanted to free up money.

if thats the case, why is miller still in memphis? he's the 2nd highest paid player and they are looking to dump salary, they have no intent to win, and multiple teams are interested and have expirings to offer. why is he still there?

if the grizz want to have a fire sale thats fine. but why is it only one player (their best), traded to a big market team in the same conference that coincidentally both shared the same GM in recent years?

It's still time till trade deadline , he'll soon be gone , you see .

I can't see win Memphis win anything with this trade , yes they now have caproom to sign who ? Who wants go to there unless he's overpaid bigtime ?

They only have 2-3 players left who are capable of scoring 20 points and there nowhere near consistent .

All of this is based on the false assumption that the owner cares about winning games more than he cares about selling the team.

From his point of view dumping salary to make the books look better was much more important in any trade than acquiring talent and having to pay it.

So from Memphis's owners viewpoint all his needs in the trade were met by the Lakers offer.

Your probably right but this only means that Memphis will be a very very big mess untill the owner sold the team .

 to the guys telling Memphis has a bright future with this move .

This isn't the first time a lop-sided trade like this has happenned.

Vince Carter was traded to the Nets for scrubs + mid-1st round picks

Baron Davis was traded to the Warriors for Dale Davis and Speedy Claxton

Ray Allen was traded to the Sonics for Gary Payton's ending contract

Rebuilding teams often make trades like this.

People really overrate Gasol. He's not a franchise player like Memphis hyped him up to be and paid him to be. He's a third option at best. His stats are very deceptive. He couldn't win just one playoff game for Memphis and he's been surrounded by good enough talent to do so. He acted jealously toward Rudy Gay when Gay outperformed him. He complained repeatedly to the Spanish media and then acts like they misinterpreted his words. He was terribly inconsistent and soft. Stayed injured. He's no where near Duncan or KG's level so why does everyone feel like this was such a bad move? He's no better than Lamar Odom. He's not a GREAT player. He wouldn't even make sacrifices for HIS team when we needed him to do things like play the 5. This shows you how much of a p*uss he is. He was afraid of getting his arse handed to him by bigger and stronger guys.

He's a perfect fit for the Lakers though because they have Kobe and an emerging star in Bynum. Which goes back to what I said, he is good for a third option at best. Just don't expect him to do anything of which he feels is out of his job requirements.

I just hate that we delayed getting rid of him for so long. We could have been a year or two ahead of where we are now.

why can't it be both? Part of making the team attractive to buy is trimming payroll - part of it is having the team in a position to turn things around quickly.

And there's a difference between there being teams who could have offered more and there being teams who did offer more. It's already been shown that the Bulls balked at paying the luxury tax. I suspect other teams would balk at the two first round picks. Memphis now has 5 first round picks in the next 3 drafts plus at least 1 very high second round pick, plus all of the cap space they have freed up.

And until the trade deadline passes, who says they are done making moves. I'm sure teams are talking to them about Mike Miller. I could see Cleveland offering something like Sasha (solid player) + Ira (expiring contract) + Simmons (a prospect) + a pick for Miller.

Memphis is putting the team in a position to be about where Portland is now in 2 to 3 years.

What's telling is that the other GM's/coaches/players/fans are complaining so much.

Be honest the trade works under league rules and it's just jealousy that "your" team didn't do the trade. It makes the other WC playoff teams pissed because now the Lakers are even more of a threat.

However what people don't WANT to understand is that this isn't a trade to make Memphis a better team on the court right now. It sounds like the owner wants to get rid of assets to make the team easier to sell. The Grizzlies weren't winning anyway. They are 3rd worst team in the NBA with Gasol.

A lot of this "hate" is from other WC playoff teams, Kobe haters that realize he has a real chance to win a championship now and in the future and general principle Laker haters.........
I'm so tired of the typical......
