OT: Big Ben New York Bound?

Post#1 » by Live Free » Sat Feb 9, 2008 6:41 pm

caught this on the front page of hoopshype.com, its an espn write-up

This kind of deal might barely cause a ripple after the blockbusters we've seen lately -- and two sources close to the situation insist that it probably won't happen -- but New York and Chicago have apparently discussed a trade that would send Ben Wallace to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson, Malik Rose and Fred Jones. ESPN.com

For the Bulls? I keep hearing that Wallace does expect to be relocated before the Feb. 21 deadline, which Chicago would undoubtedly regard as a form of addition by subtraction that creates more of an opportunity for rookie Joakim Noah. But that's about all it would be if these are the trade terms. ESPN.com

doesn't make sense to me at all, if this goes through then it'll be for the sake of just making a trade

Send Big Ben back to Detroit where the man can succeed.

Chicago saves about $7 million in 2009-10 and gets out from under the big mistake called Ben Wallace. They'll probably also buyout Rose and save money there.

An increasingly desperate Isiah gets a guy for the backline that actually plays a little defense (although he's clearly not the same guy he was in Detroit, he's still light years ahead of Randolph and Curry) and NY is probably the one team that doesn't care how awful his contract is.

Detroit wouldn't want anything to do with him now.

Big Ben isn't going to help the Knicks at all, but getting rid of him in Chicago will at least help their cap as they try to rebuild again with another center or power forward piece in the future.

What a horrible contract the Bulls gave him. Just horrible.

At least he's not giving up much. Just getting the next GM further into salary cap hell.

Isiah has got to get rid of Eddy Curry first before even thinking about Ben Wallace. BTW what has happened to Curry? Dude goes from near all-star to scrub in one year.

Still owed over $10 million a year ending in 2011 for a one-dimensional player with no heart who won't rebound or defend?

My guess is that he can't get anything worthwhile for him and know's he'll look foolish if trades him for a scrub with a marginally better contract.

He's got so many awful contracts that can't be moved. He's really painted himself into a corner.

It also frees us time for Noah who's been the better player since December and Tyrus

LOL

Curry, Randolph, AND Big Ben in the 4/5 slots. Three incredibly overpaid, very flawed players.

Wallace isn't nearly as good as he was in Detroit. Part of it is probably age, the rest most likely is he isn't sheltered by the team defense of the Pistons.

Nice to see that IT saw the Shaq deal and realized that he might not go down as having the worst deal of the year.

As up as one can go.

Not really happy with the talent, but Malik's contract ends next year.

Q-Rich is pretty bad but his contract ends the same as Wallace

These are two smaller contracts will be easier to move, Malik next year, Richardson the year after

Get rid of the distraction that is Ben Wallace

Free up time for our future front court Noah and Tyrus who should be getting minutes but don't because our coaches like to play Wallace more than 30 minutes a game

I would actually blame most if not all of his decline on age.

Most NBA players start to fade around age 30-32 and Ben is no different. He's 33 now and his stats both per game and per minute have been in steady decline since 2002-03. Especially his rebounding/shotblocking/steals which rely a lot on his athleticism.

He's a guy that relied primarily on his athleticism instead of skill and it's just no longer there.

This will allow Isiah to trade Lee for Artest. Then Ben and Ron can finally play together. Perhaps, after losses, they can have a 5 minute bout. When Artest wins he will be allowed to freestyle for a limited time. This will encourage fans to come out and watch the Knicks again. So I think it's a good trade for Isiah if he can ensure the rest of his plan unfolds.

As much as I dislike the Knicks, if played right this could be a so-so trade for them. With all the rumors of Randolph for JO going on, they could actually have a respectable - albeit overpaid - front line. Not sure where to go with Curry after that though, nobody wants him. . .

This makes no sense for either team. Other than Chicago dumping the contract of Wallace.
