Would the Bucks be able to pay Bogut after adding Brands deal?

I don't know. If Brand is healthy enough to re-up, I'd take him over Bogut any day.

Can we afford Bogut with Bobby Simmons?

I thought we could pay Bogut no matter what because we have bird rights on him?

We can and do. He meant will Kohl allow for that type of spending.

Elton Brand has been our ideal PF for years. If healthy, he's light years better than Yi. Gaining him while dumping Simmons awful deal is hardly "giving up" on Yi. It's trying to imrove our situation. Obviously, there is a risk with Brand's injury/contract issues, but if he were risk free, no way I'd even be able to bring myself to propose this.

well I agree...I just want to see us develop one of own players into a superstar.

Think Redd is worth a 5 pick? I think you are probably basing this on the Allen for 5 that boston pulled off, but that was a very rare situation in which a tanking team wanted to turn it around quickly. Looking at lottery teams I can think of maybe 2 teams interested:

Miami (who will have a high pick but might be looking to win sooner than develop a player) and maybe the clippers (assuming they get rid of maggette), but I doubt they would want to take on Redd's contract.

Who blinks first here?

Simmons deal may be the deal breaker, but we could include another asset or two (pick, 3 million in cash, whatever). Puts Yi in a major Asian market to make money for Donald Sterling. Gives us the rugged (if injured) PF that we've been calling for for years.

Now this is a Fantastic trade idea, that makes our team better now. Elton Brand is the kind of player we need on this team and to especially play next to Bogut. He has a good midrange jumper, he has a great low post game, and he's a great defender/rebounder and shot blocker who has a great attitude and works his ass off. He would definitely make everyone on our team a better player.

Doesn't this team need veteran leadership? Doesn't this guy bring that? Redd isn't getting any younger...I'd still like to trade mo for an andre miller type guy...

Miller
Redd
Dez
Brand
Bogut...

use the first on a back up pg or wing player (Beasley...not going to happen but wish it would...)

the whole trade would never work. brand either has a player option or is a free agent after this season i believe, so if we'd aquire him we'd need to lock him up regardless. you think kohl is gonna allow having two 100 mill dolla players on his team? i dont think so tim. if redd isn't involved in the deal then it pretty much can't happen, regardless of us losing simmon's awful contract. we need to trade redd, gadz, and simmons some how and build around defense in free agency or through the draft. shawn marion would have been a nice start. artest will probably be cheaper than he should be because of all his issue. it'd be nice to have one legit defender.

This trade would complete the coronation of the Bucks as being the Eastern Conference version of the LA Clippers.....

Our starting five versus the Clippers old starting five:

Brand - Brand
Kaman - Bogut
Bobby - Bobby
Cutino Mobley - Mo Williams
Magette - Redd

It's almost a carbon copy roster there.....

I'm with xTitan....this team has a huge, huge problem at the 1, 2 and 3 spots. I have full confidence next year Bogut will be an all-star and Yi will be a 16/8 guy. We need to find guys to build around them. I'd pass.

I'd have concerns about paying Brand along with paying him huge cash after a serious injury while Yi is on a rookie contract.

With that said, i don't really see how trading one PF for a different PF would prevent the Bucks from change the roster at the 1/2/3 spots.

Obviously Redd would have to be traded if we acquired Brand and between that and the draft, the Bucks could focus on reshaping the backcourt.

It's the cash as you noted. We'd be investing $15mm a year into an aging Brand coming off injury instead of the cheap rookie scale contract for Yi.

It would just put much more pressure on management to need to dump Redd for a contract that wouldn't expire most likely until the end of the 2009 season.

I have faith in Yi and would rather save the money and flexibility for other areas on the roster. Now if the deal was Redd for Brand, that I'd be all for. That solves a lot of issues.

With Brand/Bogut frontcourt, we could start Mo/Redd/CV and not have to worry about our D. Having a two shotblockers and above avg defenders in the front, covers up ALOT of problems in the back...

I'd do it without hesitation and I'm a big Yi fan and still have faith that Bobby will come good.

Yea lets trade Yi for a guy pushing 30 with a ruptured achillies.

That would be a typical Bucks trade though, trade a rookie with all star potential for a guy pushing 30 with a blown knee who used to be an all star.

MIdranger why are you giving up on Yi I think Yi will be better than dirk he's going to be real good shot blocker and a good rebounder he going to be a closer at the end of games like my favorite player Kobe Bryant so tht means he's going to be a SUPERSTAR

A. The achillies is not in the knee.

B. No one is giving up on Yi.

C. The Clippers were a 47 win team in a TOUGH Western Conference. In this Eastern Conference that team would've been a 50+ Top-3 team.

D. I'd still trade Redd after this deal, as we'd need his scoring even less. Though, a 20/10 big and a high scoring perimeter player is generally a recipe for success in the NBA. Especially when surrounded by competent others.

E. Tradeable assets following this trade: Redd, CV, Mo, Draft Pick, Bell, etc... Essentially anyone but Bogut and Brand, i.e. the two smart, unselfish, bigs, who actually can play defense. Between the poo poo platter of assets above, we could probably find a solution to our back court issues.

Exactly. Just look at what we're giving up. Voskuhl is just an expiring, Simmons is way overpaid and one day you hope Yi is as good as Brand. Sure you could say marketing dollars for us but I just want to win.
