But that's only for 4 years. Sergio would make SOOOOOOOOOOOO much more money here later in his career than he could in Spain that it's totally worth it to take a pay cut for 4 years.

But dont you think it would be hard to turn down 40-50 million if it was in your face to take a 48 million dollar pay cut for 4 years to play in a league where you MIGHT have a CHANCE to get a deal that big IF everything plays out the way you would like it to?

Actually, the reason he dropped to Portland was because he had one year left in Spain on his deal and Portland was the only team willing to take him in the first round. After this season, he is a free agent in Europe. In the States the Blazers own his rights.

No over reaction from me unless soliciting debate is over reacting. I would like to know where Givony is getting his info. I think he is full of it, but would like to hear from others. Have they seen or heard any info on Rudy having a change of heart?

I've seen it reported that Sergio has said that in the frequent converstions he's had with Rudy, Rudy has expressed his intention to come over next season.

However, it's also been reported that at least a couple of other European teams are planning on offering Rudy a lot of money to sign multi-year contracts. It sounds like it would be substantially more then a rookie scale contract in the NBA. An extra 5 or 6 million over the next 3 years might be kind of persuasive, so I'm not sure Rudy being here next season is a done deal yet.

that's actually why it seems likely he's coming to the NBA next season. It was reported here that his 'new' Joventut contract had a minimal buyout provision making it easier for him to leave. I know the blazers can contribute some money to a buyout so maybe that's the total buyout amount.

Still, 22 year olds has been known to change their minds in the past, and with an extra few million waiting if he stays in Europe, it's possible Rudy's mind will change. Seems unlikely at this point but still possible.

Am I crazy, or should someone just offer the kid a shoe contract to ease the financial pain of leaving Europe. To be honest, it doesn't even seem that unethical, if at all... Larry Miller, make the call.
